  • Macmillan Coffee Morning

    Mon 19 Sep 2022

Macmillan Coffee morning:             On Friday 23rd September, we will be holding a non-uniform day in exchange for a donation of shop bought cakes (which will need to be in date and edible for at least a week). The following week (Friday 30th September), we will be participating in the national Macmillan coffee morning. Parents, carers, relatives and friends are invited to join us in the school dining area from 9:15 am – 10:15 am, to enjoy a coffee (or tea) and a cake for a small donation. Our children, of course, will not be missing out - there will be a cake sale during the day, so children are invited to bring along 20p to buy a cake. We look forward to welcoming you in school and we would like to thank you for supporting us to raise money for the fabulous work that the Macmillan nurses do.

  • Year 4 Swiming

    Mon 19 Sep 2022

Swimming lessons for our Year 4 children will commence on Friday 23rd September and will then continue every Friday afternoon – the children will travel by coach to the Alan Higgs Centre and will be taught by a qualified swimming instructor. On their first day. the children will be assessed in their water confidence and swimming ability and will then be grouped, in order to progress their water and swimming skills. Your child will need to ensure that he/she brings in a swimming costume or swimming trunks (sports shorts are not allowed), as well as a towel. The children will return to school before 3:20pm so that they can be collected at the usual time.

Thank you: On behalf of all the staff at Moat House, I would like to offer our thanks for the generous gifts we received in the final week of the Summer term – it was very much appreciated.

Welcome Back:     It was great to see the children back in school on Tuesday 6th September and I hope that they have all enjoyed their first few days in their new classes. They were all very smartly dressed and looked wonderful! The Year 6 children looked especially grown up in their new black sweatshirts and seem ready to take on the mantle of being role models for the rest of the school. I am looking forward to another exciting year at Moat House and look forward to meeting you at Parents’ Evening, class assemblies or on the playground at the start or end of the school day. .

    DRA Vacancies:

Do you like working with children? Do you have some free time during the day? We are currently looking for lunchtime supervisors to look after our children at lunchtimes. The role would involve helping the children when they are eating their lunch eg: cutting up food, as well as supervising them when they are playing outside. Many of our current DRAs find it to be a very rewarding and worthwhile role, which can open up further possibilities for work in childcare. Please call in to the school office for an application form, if you are interested.

  • Year 4 and 5 Well-Being

    Mon 11 Jul 2022

On Monday 4th July, Amy Dickson, a world famous saxophonist, visited Year 4 and 5, as part of our child wellbeing programme.  Amy has been previously working with the classes on how to use breathing techniques to calm and focus minds. We were also treated by Amy to a live mini-concert in each class.  The children were very impressed by Amy and were surprised that a saxophone could be so powerful. Amy was impressed by the children’s behaviour and the quality of the questions that they asked.  If your child is in Year 4 or 5, ask them about ‘Elephant Breaths’.

We will share the results in a future newsletter. We would like to say a huge thank you to parents, carers, friends and family for coming along to support the children.

  • Year 5's Busy Week

    Mon 04 Jul 2022

Many of the Year 5 children had a brilliant time in Derbyshire in the week beginning 27th June and managed to (mostly) avoid the rain, whilst taking part in lots of outdoor fun and activities. The highlight of the trip was the low ropes course at Conkers but the children enjoyed all of the activities, including a seven kilometre nature walk!

With half of Y5 in Derbyshire, the remaining pupils undertook the journey to the city centre on Tuesday 28th June, in a bid to link the cultural heritage of the city to the songs they had been practising as part of their upcoming Big Sing. They knew little bits about the city’s car, bicycle and weaving history but needed further evidence that only the museums could offer. They had a fantastic trip around the Transport Museum realising that the penny farthing was not only taller than Mr Jennings but was also high up when you sat on it! They explored the history of car and bicycle development – the adults recognising cars they once owned, now in a museum, began to feel very old! Mrs Aston relished in telling stories of the 1987 FA cup bus and the glory days of Coventry City FC. Following a peaceful and relaxing lunch in Lady Herbert’s garden, the group made their way to the Herbert Art gallery. Here, displays on reconciliation and Lady Godiva provided further substance to songs they had been practising.

On Thursday 30th June, Year 5 visited the Warwick Arts Centre to participate in a concert alongside four other schools. Each of the songs were about different elements of Coventry's history, including Lady Godiva and Frank Whittle. The children have been learning the songs over the last couple of months and have worked really hard to remember all of the tricky words! At the venue, the children performed alongside a live band with a conductor – it sounded amazing! All of the children had a great time and some are still singing the songs this morning! Well done, Year 5!

In all of their external visits recently, the Year 5 children were great ambassadors for the school and have been a real credit to Moat House. It was lovely to hear members of the public commenting so positively about their lovely manners and excellent behaviour.

  • Year 1 Library Visit

    Mon 27 Jun 2022

On Thursday 23rd June, Year 1 visited Bell Green library. After walking there, we browsed the book selection and had time to explore both fiction and non-fiction texts. The children had the opportunity to sign up for a library card and they each chose one book to take home to share with their families. On Thursday 14th July we will return to the library again to take our books back. The children were also given the opportunity to take part in a summer reading challenge. Children are challenged to read 6 books over the summer holidays in order to win a medal and a certificate. Children can also collect stickers every time they visit the library. This is a great place to take children over the long summer holiday, which is free of charge. Look out for more information on more events happening there throughout summer.

  • Reception Parent Meeting:

    Mon 27 Jun 2022

On Wednesday 22nd June, parents with children who are due to start our Reception in September, were invited into school to find out about the setting, the school routines and the learning at Moat House. The teachers and teaching assistants introduced themselves and parents were given the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have.
