Mon 30 Mar 2026Easter Competition: We had some really imaginative entries for our Easter bonnet and scene competition on Friday 27th March, including Eggy Potter and Eggtropolis! It was extremely difficult to choose the winners but in the end a decision had to be made and the winning entries are as follows: Ella, Aria (YN), Roman (YR), Kylan-Lee (Y1), Vera-May (Y2), Brooklyn (Y3), Aaryesha (Y4), Vanshikaa (Y5) and Kian (Y6). It will be of no surprise that the winners received an Easter egg! Thank you for supporting your children with their entries.
Wizard of Oz: On Thursday 26th and Friday 27th March, we enjoyed two fantastic performances of the Wizard of Oz – the show was brilliant and retold the story of Dorothy, Toto and their friends: the tin man without a heart, the scarecrow with no brain and the lion with no courage. The children did a fantastic job of entertaining us with their acting, as well as the songs and dances and this was all through their hard work at after school and lunchtime clubs. A special mention must also go to the Backstage Crew, who designed, created and organised the props and even more importantly made sure they were in the right place at the right time! We would also like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff who gave up their time to make our very first Easter production a huge success!
Parents’ Evening: Thank you to those who were able to attend parents’ evening on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th March If you were unable to see your child’s teacher, please don’t hesitate to request a separate appointment, either via the school office or by speaking to your child’s class teacher. We will notify you of the rearranged dates for 2RW, 2KD and Nursery parents’ evenings, as these needed to be postponed, due to staff absence.
Football Success: On Wednesday 25th March, the Moat House football team played a friendly match against local rivals Henley Green. It was a match full of excitement and many goals. Moat House was the dominant team and the final score was 3:10 with goals from Theo (4), Bradley (3), Carter (2) and Muku (1). What a great result and fantastic preparation for the upcoming football tournament in May!
Pizza Express: On Tuesday 24th March, RZE had a wonderful trip to Pizza Express in Warwick. The children loved learning how to make their own pizzas and had great fun getting hands-on by rolling out their own dough, spreading tomato passata, and sprinkling cheese on top before placing them in the oven to cook. Afterwards, we headed to Warwick Park, where the children enjoyed a picnic and got to taste the delicious pizzas they had made! The day was finished off with playtime in the park and watching the ducks by the pond.

Red Nose Day: Thank you for supporting us to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday 20th March. It was great to see our children in a sea of scarlet, as we encouraged children to wear red. In the spirit of doing something funny for money, we also held a joke competition where we invited children to share their funniest joke in classes. The best joke for each year group was shared in assembly this morning and the winners received an Easter egg. The winners were: Roman (YR), Aibe (Y1), Peter, Bella (Year 2), Jack (Year 3), Adonay (Year 4), Yusra, Simon (Year 5) and Ewan (Year 6).
Castle Wood Visit: On Monday 16th March, our Year 2 School Councillors (Melanie, Kamal, Ethan and Mia) visited Castle Wood to help pupils there create colourful bookmarks to sell in the local community. The children used finger‑printing techniques and added details with felt‑tip pens, producing wonderfully realistic fish, bumblebees, flowers and rainbows. On Thursday 19th March, the same children returned to Castle Wood to share their bookmarks in an assembly. Everyone enjoyed two fantastic afternoons working together, and it was lovely to spend time with our next‑door neighbours.
Bookmark Competition: Thank you to everyone who took part in our design a bookmark competition during the week of World Book Day (week commencing 2nd March) - the lucky winners were: Kamal (Year 2), Sabrina (Year 4) and Demi (Year 6).

Mon 16 Mar 2026British Science Week: In the week beginning 9th March, we celebrated British Science Week with the theme, "Curiosity... what is your question?". The children had a special assembly which explored how asking questions helps scientists discover new ideas and understand the world around us. We talked discussed why it is important to keep wondering how and why things happen. Pupils also took part in a range of activities. Some classes investigated how plants absorb water by exploring water uptake through roots. Others worked together to solve a classification themed escape room. It has been fantastic to see the children thinking like scientists. British Science Week has been a wonderful opportunity to celebrate curiosity and inspire a love of science across the school. We will continue to encourage them to ask questions about the world around them!
Mothers’ Day Events: Thank you to all who came to our Mothers’ day morning or afternoon tea on Friday 13th March - this was a huge success and we know that the children really relished spending quality time with the special ladies in their lives, whilst enjoying tea and cake. We hope that you all have a wonderful time this coming Sunday, appreciating all of the special people, who look after us throughout the year.

Mon 09 Mar 2026Year 6 Body Image Workshop: On Friday 6th March, Year 6 pupils participated in a body image workshop delivered by the School Nursing Team. The session encouraged children to think about how we view ourselves and others, and to understand the importance of having a positive and healthy body image. During the workshop, pupils discussed how images in the media can sometimes be unrealistic and how everyone’s bodies grow and develop differently. The nurses also spoke about the importance of self-confidence, respecting differences and celebrating what makes each person unique. Children had the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts - this provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to learn about self-esteem, wellbeing and the importance of looking after their physical and mental health.
World Book Day: On Thursday 5th March, we celebrated World Book Day. Children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, filling the school with colour, creativity and excitement for reading. During the morning, teachers swapped classes and visited different year groups to share their favourite picture books. This gave the children the chance to hear a variety of stories and experience books chosen by different teachers across the school. This year, we chose the theme 'Twisted Fairy Tales'. Children explored stories with unusual twists on traditional fairy tales - such as tales told from a different character’s perspective or stories with completely different endings. Inspired by these imaginative books, pupils took part in a range of creative activities including drama, comic strip creation and writing their own letters and diary entries as characters from the stories. It was a fantastic day celebrating books, storytelling and the joy of reading.
Library Visit: On Monday 2nd March, 2RW visited the new library in Bell Green. Everyone was really excited to see the new building and how it’s been changed into the library. The children listened to a story then designed their own monster using a dice to determine its features. The children were also able to select their own book to bring home and share with their families.

Mon 02 Mar 2026HADO Event: On Wednesday 25th February, a group of nine Year 5 and 6 children took part in a HADO competition against other Coventry schools. For those people who don’t know, HADO is dodgeball for the digital generation - it is played using augmented reality (AR) visors and it is fast, competitive and fun. Our Moat House team competed well and won several matches however it wasn’t quite enough for them to reach the semi-final. However, everyone agreed that it was a fantastic event!
International Day: On Monday 23rd February, we proudly held our very first International Day, with a special focus on China. The aim of the day was to broaden the children’s understanding of different cultures and help develop respect, curiosity and appreciation for the wider world, reducing the likelihood of stereotypes. The school was buzzing with excitement as pupils took part in a wide range of engaging activities. These included making traditional lanterns and dragons, acting out the story of the Chinese New Year, learning some Mandarin, painting, and discovering fascinating facts about everyday life in China. Thanks to your generous support at our fundraising events, we were also able to invite a specialist dance teacher into school to work with children from Reception to Year 3. The children enjoyed learning Chinese martial arts–inspired dance and even had the opportunity to take part in dragon dancing — a definite highlight of the day! Thank you for your continued support in helping us to provide such enriching experiences for our pupils. Watch this space — next year our International Day will focus on Spain!
Year 6 Trip to Dol-y-Moch: Some of our Year 6 children (Fabian, Laila, Zuzanna and Ameerah) have written this report about the Year 6 trip to Dol-y-Moch wc: Monday 9th February: “on the first night, we did an amazing activity where we climbed a mountain, in the dark with no flashlight, which was quite scary because Mrs Nab was making spooky sounds! We did lots of other activities and it was great fun. Some of the activities were: climbing, kayaking and the famous Dol-y-Moch Dive (where you dive into the water)! We had the best time ever and we wish we could go again.”
