Last Week's News 11th April 25
Mon 14 Apr 2025Year 5 trip to China: On Friday 11th April, some of our Year 5 children returned from a once in a lifetime school trip to China. They all had a fantastic time and learnt so much about Chinese culture and customs. The trip was planned perfectly to provide the children with a good balance of sightseeing – this included them experiencing the world famous Shanghai Tower, the Bund and the Yellow Crane Tower, in Wuhan. They were also welcomed to two schools in Wuhan, where they participated in traditional Chinese lessons like calligraphy and Chinese knot making.
Easter Bonnet Winners (EYFS and KS1): What fantastic Easter bonnets! It was really hard to chose the winners. Prizes were awarded for each class for first, second and third, as follows:
Nursery: Carson, Amelia, Noah, Aramide, Ella and Amelia-Grace; RSD: Leo, Karim, Ava and Joshua; RJL: Lucah-Blu, Mariyam, Era, and Daniella; 1ET: Megan, Bori and Jhelanni; 1RW: Neriah, Kamal and Rayne; 2BD: Theaa-Rose, Charlie and Skylar; 2MM: Kyle, Perez and Mollie.
Easter Scene Winners (KS2): The KS2 children have brought in some amazing Easter scenes. Thank you, everyone, for all your hard work. First, second and third prizes were given to each class as follows:
3KS: Arla-Rae, Roksana, Chiemerie; 3EW: Aadriti, Colton; 3ML: Lottie, Lochan, Antonia; 4MW: Inayah, Evie D, Nazra; 4NL: Zara, Modesire, Zilan; 5JK: Corey B, Kian, Zach; 6CB: Nadia, Nickolas, Elsa; 6ST: Rohan, Natal, Natasha.
1ET Assembly: This took place on Thursday 10th April. The children explained all about how scientists classify animals. Then they sang a beautiful song with lots of different animals, like unicorns and dolphins, in it. You were all amazing, 1ET!
Assembly with Brian Nash: Brian Nash, former vicar at St Chad’s, came in to school on Monday 7th April and shared the story of the first Easter with the children. The children enjoyed this story and got to understand that Easter might be about more than chocolate eggs and the Easter bunny.

RSD Visit to Pizza Express: On Tuesday 29th April, RSD enjoyed an exciting trip to Pizza Express in Warwick to make their own pizzas. The children were given chef hats and aprons and were shown how to roll out their own dough and flip it over. The children added the tomato base and cheese before the pizza chefs put them into the oven. To end their amazing pizza experience the children got to have a pizza picnic in the park before enjoying a well-earned play on the playground, some games and an ice cream!

News from week ending Friday 4th April
Fri 04 Apr 2025Football Match: On Wednesday 2nd April, the Moat House football team participated in a game against Spon Gate after school. Here is a recount of the events (written by Max and Alex): It was 3.30pm when the first whistle was blown to start the game. It was a close match with Max scoring the first goal for Moat House. Unfortunately, Spon Gate equalised shortly after. The next goal was scored by Spon Gate, which was a huge disappointment. However, in the dying minutes of the match, Bradley scored a heroic goal by chipping the ball over the keeper. It was 2-2. With a second left, Spon Gate scored again. The game ended 3-2 to Spon Gate. You can't win them all. All of the players tried their best and put in some amazing performances! Hopefully, we will win the next game!
Year 1 Parents’ Meeting: Thank you to the Year 1 parents who came to our meeting on Wednesday 2nd April about the Phonics Screening Check, which is a statutory assessment and will be held in the week commencing 9th June. Please continue to practise phonics with your child by using the QR codes that were sent out.
Rocksteady Concert: On Tuesday 1st April, we enjoyed hearing how our latest Moat House rock bands have been progressing, as a result of their weekly music lessons with Sophie, from Rocksteady. The children showed off their developing talent with different musical instruments including guitars, keyboards and drums. There were some interesting band names including Strawberry Shake and The Nine Chickens and they played some very familiar songs including: We Will Rock You and Titanium. It was truly a five-star performance!
Castle Wood Visit: On Monday 31st March, we welcomed some of our Castle Wood neighbours here at Moat House to discuss the good work that our two schools have been doing recently. This included our joint fundraiser for Myton Hospices – between both schools, we managed to raise almost £300 – thanks to everyone who contributed. To finish the afternoon, we had some fun and enjoyed an Easter hunt – everyone enjoyed the afternoon and all went home with a chocolate treat!
Comic Relief: As a result of our amazing toy sale on 21st March, we managed to raise an amazing £433.43. Thank you to everyone for your toy donations and we hope that any preloved toys or books are now being enjoyed in their new homes!
