Mon 23 Feb 2026Cool to be Kind Week: Friday 13th February was the last day of Cool to be Kind week, which was a great success. Children were even kinder and more helpful than usual and achieved stickers for their actions. Examples of this are Umar, Iminathi and Maliha, who helped organise some new books for Reception. Well done everyone!
Year 6 Trip to Dol-y-Moch: We welcomed back our Year 6 children, from an action-packed week at Dol-y-Moch, on Friday 13th February. They had the opportunity to participate in lots of exciting activities, including: canoeing, kayaking, rock scrambling, climbing mountains and exploring mines. Some children climbed up a waterfall inside a mine to reach the top of it! All of the children showed great resilience when facing new challenges and with a little encouragement, many were able to overcome their fears. The Dol-y-Moch staff commented on what a resilient, respectful and determined group of children we had in Year 6. If you would like to see photographs of the children during their adventures, there are lots on the Moat House X (Twitter) account, which you can find: @Moat_House There will be further reports after half term as the children are keen to share their experiences.
2KD’s Class Assembly: 2KD entertained us with an assembly and shared their amazing learning, on Friday 13th February. The children have learnt about living things and they expected us to participate in a quiz, where we had to decide if the item was living, non-living or never been alive. They were also very knowledgeable about the life cycle of a butterfly and shared a song about this, that they had learnt – they were even familiar with the word: metamorphosis! Thanks 2KD!
Disco Divas: 💖 Our amazing EYFS and Years 1-4 children danced the afternoon away at the Valentine's Disco, on Wednesday 11th February, proving that fun and fundraising go hand in hand. 🕺💃 Not only did they show off their coolest moves, but they also helped support our school so thankyou to everyone who grooved for a great cause! 🎉🎶 A big thank you must also go to Richard (Marley and Colton’s dad), as he was in charge of the music.
Year 3 Walk: On Tuesday 10th February, our Year 3 children enjoyed a walk around the local area to consolidate their learning and understanding about settlements, particularly different types of homes. They found a variety of homes, including terraced, detached, semi-detached, bungalows, flats and even a caravan. It may have rained a little but it didn't dampen their spirits, with children encouraging drivers passing by to honk their horns! Another fabulous day with our beautiful children.
Safer Internet Day: On Tuesday 10th February, Moat House marked Safer Internet Day 2026, focusing on the theme of safe uses of artificial intelligence (AI). Our KS1 children learned about smart speakers and explored the idea that these devices are not real people. KS2 children investigated images to consider whether they were AI-generated or real. With AI becoming an increasingly common part of everyday life, the sessions provided valuable opportunities for children to recognise both the safe uses and the potential risks of AI technology that many of them already encounter regularly.
2KD’s Library Visit: On Monday 9th February, 2KD visited the new library in Bell Green and enjoyed a story read by Sue. The children then took part in a fun dice game, where they rolled the dice to decide how many eyes to draw on their aliens. They finished their visit by exploring the children’s library and selecting a book to take home and share with their families.

Last Week's News w/e 6th Feb 26
Mon 09 Feb 2026Belonging through Books: On Friday 6th February, our school came together for a themed reading morning focused on friendship and belonging. Each class shared a story that explored what it means to be accepted, to feel included and to be a good friend. Some of the shared books included: The Adventures of Beekle, The Unimaginary Friend, How to Make a Friend and We Are Here. The children then took part in a range of thoughtful and creative activities linked to their stories. These included designing their own imaginary friends, creating a ‘recipe’ for the perfect friend and writing kind compliments for one another. These activities sparked some lovely discussions about empathy, acceptance and the importance of making others feel welcome. It was wonderful to see the children engaging so positively with the theme and we are already looking forward to next half term’s themed reading morning, which will focus on celebrating differences.
Disco Alert: 🕺✨ Our Valentine's disco for Year 5 and 6, on Wednesday 4th February, was a huge success and we would like to thank all of our amazing children, who brought the groove and the love to Moat House! A big thank you to Richard (Marley and Colton’s dad), as he was in charge of the tunes and thanks to those who ran and supported the tuck shop – it was a huge hit and helped raise extra funds for the school!
Member of Parliament Visit: On Friday 30th January, we welcomed our local MP, Mary Creagh into school. She was keen to meet our School Councillors who did a fantastic job of informing her about all the positive things they have been doing at Moat House, including setting up our Clean Team and our fundraising efforts. Our children had lots of questions for her about her job and also about where she works in parliament. She also congratulated us as we have been lucky enough to secure a visit to Parliament in July (more details will follow). Mary was also keen to meet our parents and carers and we hope that you had a positive interaction with her, if you met her out and about on the playground last Friday afternoon.
Clean Team: This year, our School Council have been keen to set up a Clean Team who look after our school by collecting litter at lunchtimes. Each member of the team has an allocated day where they implement their duties to keep Moat House clean and tidy! We are extremely proud of their efforts and in our last achievement assembly, they were presented with a special “Clean Team” badge to recognise their commitment in looking after our environment.

Mon 02 Feb 20265SG’s Class Assembly: We enjoyed a very informative assembly by 5SG on Friday 30th January and were really impressed with their classroom learning. In Literacy, they have been writing instructions for a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, as well as learning about alliteration, personification and onomatopoeia. They also demonstrated their mathematical skills of multiplication and division and shared worked examples with us all, on a flipchart. Marley D and Nazra shared their amazing speed stacking skills – blink and you could have missed it! What was most impressive was the fact that the children devised the assembly themselves – well done 5SG!
Library Launch: On Tuesday 27th January, we were very excited to open up our library to parents and children after school, so that families can enjoy reading good quality story books, at no cost to you! We hope that you will use this facility on a regular basis and remind you that it will be open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:20pm until 4:20pm. Children will be allowed to borrow three books at a time and they will need to return them to the library after a month, or sooner if you are speedy readers!
Read Write Inc: Thank you to the Year 1 parents who joined us for our second phonics session on Tuesday 27th January, where we demonstrated how we teach phonics using Read Write Inc, at Moat House. We hope that these sessions have been useful to you and we urge you to please continue to hear your children read with the reading books that they bring home, on a daily basis.
Young Voices: On Monday 26th January, some of our Key Stage 2 children took part in a spectacular Young Voices concert at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham. During the show, they sang a wide range of songs, including hits from Wicked and Tarzan, as well as a disco-themed medley, performing to a packed audience alongside children from many other schools. Moat House children were particularly fantastic when singing ‘Pop Medley’ and ‘Power in Me’. They had the exciting opportunity to work with a professional conductor and to sing and dance alongside talented performers, including the dance group Urban Strides. One of the highlights of the day was learning a brand-new song with Connie Talbot, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone had a fantastic day, danced the night away and truly did Moat House proud!
