• News from week ending Thursday 22nd May

  Year 1 Library Visits:    On Tuesday 20^th and Thursday 22^nd May, Year 1 visited Bell Green Library. The children enjoyed listening to two stories and even had time to create some colourful artwork based on one of the stories. The children were given a library card and were able to choose a book to bring back to school. Year 1 will then return these books to the library in a few weeks’ time. They were all excellently behaved and enjoyed the time at the library.

   

  Junior PCSOs:  Our Year 5 Junior PCSOs were busy again on Wednesday 21^st May. They were given the task of investigating a crime scene, which involved them considering evidence at a fictitious crime scene and questioning “suspects”. They then took on court roles, asked more questions and made a final decision as to whether they thought the “suspect” was guilty or not.

   

  Bikeability:      Our Year 5 children are currently having weekly cycling lessons and they are making great progress. In the last couple of weeks (in May), they were even cycling on the roads and on Wednesday 21st May that also involved them turning right at a junction. The Bikeability staff always ensure that the chiuldren are completely safe and this involves them wearing high visibility vests and a helmet.

  Year 5 China Assembly:          Our Year 5 children who were fortunate enough to visit China, in April, shared some of their experiences in a special assembly on Friday 16^th May. They talked about the sights they saw, which included the Shanghai Tower and the Yellow Crane Tower, as well as the schools they were lucky enough to visit. They also talked about other very important things like the flight, the food, the hotel and even the toilet experiences! Thanks Year 5 – it was a very informative assembly!

   

  Year 6 SATs:   Our Year 6 children completed their Key Stage 2 SATs in the week commencing 12^th May. Staff were very impressed with the attitude and behaviour of all of our children and we know that whatever the results are, the children couldn’t have worked any harder. We would like to say a huge well done to all of the children for their excellent efforts this week. As a reward, they all enjoyed a visit from the ice cream van on Friday 16^th May.

   

  Reception trip to Warwick Castle:              On Thursday 15^th May, our Reception children enjoyed a trip to Warwick Castle. When first arriving at the castle, the children were greeted by some very beautiful peacocks, as well as an archer who was doing target practise. The children were wowed by the size of the castle and enjoyed exploring both the king maker exhibition and the state rooms, which allowed them to compare their learning in the classroom with real life exhibitions.   In addition the children were also extremely enthusiastic whilst helping the princess find her lost keys in the tower and they thoroughly enjoyed the Zog show, which they all thought was very funny!  A fantastic time was had by all, and the children were a credit to the school.

  2BD’s Class Assembly:       On Friday 9^th May, 2BD shared their learning with us in assembly. They showed us their non-chronological reports about dogs and explained the features that they needed to include. They also shared their learning in maths, science and history too! Did you know that butterflies taste with their feet? We learnt a lot from them and were surprised at how busy the children have been in their classrooms. Well done to 2BD, Miss Dillon and Mrs Shirley for sharing your learning with us. Thank you to all the parents and families that came to support. 

   

  Junior PCSOs:        On Wednesday 7th May, several of our Year 5 children have taken on the role of Junior PCSO, working alongside actual PCSOs. The children all received a uniform consisting of a high-vis vest and a Junior PCSO hat and began their duties by taking out a pledge, using the phonetic alphabet. For their initial challenge, they went out onto Deedmore Road to monitor the traffic. Ronnie and Adam (the actual PCSOs) set up a speed monitor to catch speeding cars and we are pleased to report that all of the motorists drove safely and there was no evidence of speeding or other dangerous driving behaviour.

   

  VE Commemorations: In the week commencing 5^th May, we marked this important event with special assemblies, tea parties and picnics. In Key Stage 1, our children listened to music and played games that would have happened eighty years ago. Our Key Stage 2 children learnt a topical song “It’s a long way to Tipperary.” Everyone had fun but were conscious that there is a serious message to be shared and we hope that this was a way to ensure that all of our children are aware of the significance of the commemorations.

  Year 5 trip to China:  On Friday 11^th April, some of our Year 5 children returned from a once in a lifetime school trip to China. They all had a fantastic time and learnt so much about Chinese culture and customs. The trip was planned perfectly to provide the children with a good balance of sightseeing – this included them experiencing the world famous Shanghai Tower, the Bund and the Yellow Crane Tower, in Wuhan. They were also welcomed to two schools in Wuhan, where they participated in traditional Chinese lessons like calligraphy and Chinese knot making.

   

  RSD Visit to Pizza Express: On Tuesday 29^th April, RSD enjoyed an exciting trip to Pizza Express in Warwick to make their own pizzas. The children were given chef hats and aprons and were shown how to roll out their own dough and flip it over.  The children added the tomato base and cheese before the pizza chefs put them into the oven. To end their amazing pizza experience the children got to have a pizza picnic in the park before enjoying a well-earned play on the playground, some games and an ice cream!
