Mon 11 May 2026Year 6 SATs:: Next week, our Year 6 children will be completing their SATs. Here is the timetable for the week:
- Monday 11th May: Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling (GPS) Papers 1 & 2
- Tuesday 12th May: Reading
- Wednesday 13th May: Mathematics Papers 1 & 2
- Thursday 14th May: Mathematics Paper 3
Ensuring a good night’s sleep and a calm, positive morning routine will really help children feel settled and ready to do their very best. Please encourage your child to come into school each day feeling well-rested, organised and prepared. To support them further, we will be running a SATs Breakfast Club each morning during test week. This will provide a relaxed start to the day, with time to eat, chat with friends and settle any nerves before the tests begin. This will also give them the chance to get some last minute revision! We are incredibly proud of how hard the children have worked this year and we want them to feel confident, supported and ready to shine
Clean up Crew: Children from both Moat House and Castle Wood joined together on Friday 8th May for a campus clean‑up, collecting litter and discovering how small actions can make a big difference. Their enthusiasm helped make the whole site look fantastic, and we’re planning more litter‑picking sessions in the future. Please continue to support our efforts by doing your bit and taking any litter home. Thank you.

Mon 27 Apr 2026Careers Day: On Friday 24th April, we enjoyed our first ever careers day to support our Life Skills learning and curriculum. Across the whole school, children embraced the day by dressing up as the careers they would like to pursue in their futures. – it was lovely to meet future artists, chefs, doctors and firefighters. In their learning, our youngest children learnt about different types of jobs, children in years three and four learnt about setting goals and personal strengths and our oldest children considered the qualities needed to become employed and the routes into different careers. We hope the children enjoyed the day and thank you for your support with the inspiring outfits!
Nursery Trip: Our Nursery children had a fantastic day at Hoar Park Farm on Thursday 23rd April, where they had the opportunity to explore and learn about a variety of animals including goats, sheep, cows and ponies. They even got to see a baby goat that had been born only an hour before! A visit to the reptile house was a real highlight, with some children bravely holding a stick insect and stroking a bearded dragon. The children enjoyed playing in the park before heading home. They were all beautifully well behaved and had a wonderful time from start to finish.

Mon 27 Apr 2026PCSOs visit the Nursery: On Monday 13th April, our Nursery welcomed two PCSOs to Moat House. Ancient Egypt Day: On Monday 13th April, our Year 3 children enjoyed a fantastic Ancient Egypt Day to celebrate the end of last half term’s History topic. The day was filled with a range of creative arts and crafts activities, allowing the children to showcase their learning in a fun and engaging way. They used tea bags to stain paper to create an aged papyrus effect, before writing messages to their parents in hieroglyphics, using charcoal. The children also made impressive Sphinx sculptures from clay and designed beautiful Queen Nefertiti-inspired collars using paper plates and pasta. To complete the day, they drew detailed images of their favourite Egyptian gods and goddesses in their sketchbooks. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and creativity from all of the children, and a great way to round off their learning on Ancient Egypt.
Year 4 Swimming: Our Year 4 children have enjoyed developing their swimming skills in our “pop up pool” in the week beginning 13th April. They have had a lesson every day and this will continue until Friday 8th May. Many of the children are already making fantastic progress and they are much more confident in the water! Well done Year 4!
Careers Day: As part of our Life Skills curriculum, children learn about careers they may wish to have when they grow older. They learn about different job roles and the skills and qualifications required to fulfil their ambitions. Within this curriculum, children learn to share their likes and dislikes, identify their own positive qualities and skill sets and how to set short-term and long-term goals. Therefore, on Friday 24th April we are giving children the opportunity to come to school in clothing to reflect the job they might like to do when they get older. This can be a chef, builder, dancer, scientist, footballer or even a magician! Please join Class Dojo (if you haven’t already) to stay connected with all our latest school news and to keep up to date with important information.
Library Competition: Last half term, we were delighted to open our school library to families after school and it has been wonderful to see so many children visiting with their parents to choose books to enjoy at home. This term, we hope to welcome even more families through our doors. To support this, we will be launching a class competition. Each time a child visits the library they will earn a point for their class and once a class reaches 50 visits, they will receive a prize. We look forward to seeing many more of you in the library this half term. Just a reminder that the library is open from 3:20pm, Tuesday to Thursday.

Mon 16 Mar 2026British Science Week: In the week beginning 9th March, we celebrated British Science Week with the theme, "Curiosity... what is your question?". Some classes investigated how plants absorb water by exploring water uptake through roots. Others worked together to solve a classification themed escape room. Mon 09 Mar 2026Year 6 Body Image Workshop: On Friday 6th March, Year 6 pupils participated in a body image workshop delivered by the School Nursing Team. The session encouraged children to think about how we view ourselves and others, and to understand the importance of having a positive and healthy body image. During the workshop, pupils discussed how images in the media can sometimes be unrealistic and how everyone’s bodies grow and develop differently. The nurses also spoke about the importance of self-confidence, respecting differences and celebrating what makes each person unique. Children had the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts - this provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to learn about self-esteem, wellbeing and the importance of looking after their physical and mental health.
World Book Day: On Thursday 5th March, we celebrated World Book Day. Children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, filling the school with colour, creativity and excitement for reading. During the morning, teachers swapped classes and visited different year groups to share their favourite picture books. This gave the children the chance to hear a variety of stories and experience books chosen by different teachers across the school. This year, we chose the theme 'Twisted Fairy Tales'. Children explored stories with unusual twists on traditional fairy tales - such as tales told from a different character’s perspective or stories with completely different endings. Inspired by these imaginative books, pupils took part in a range of creative activities including drama, comic strip creation and writing their own letters and diary entries as characters from the stories. It was a fantastic day celebrating books, storytelling and the joy of reading.
Library Visit: On Monday 2nd March, 2RW visited the new library in Bell Green. Everyone was really excited to see the new building and how it’s been changed into the library. International Day: On Monday 23rd February, we proudly held our very first International Day, with a special focus on China. The aim of the day was to broaden the children’s understanding of different cultures and help develop respect, curiosity and appreciation for the wider world, reducing the likelihood of stereotypes. The school was buzzing with excitement as pupils took part in a wide range of engaging activities. These included making traditional lanterns and dragons, acting out the story of the Chinese New Year, learning some Mandarin, painting, and discovering fascinating facts about everyday life in China. Thanks to your generous support at our fundraising events, we were also able to invite a specialist dance teacher into school to work with children from Reception to Year 3. The children enjoyed learning Chinese martial arts–inspired dance and even had the opportunity to take part in dragon dancing — a definite highlight of the day! Thank you for your continued support in helping us to provide such enriching experiences for our pupils. Watch this space — next year our International Day will focus on Spain!
