Moat House Early Years Foundation Stage is a safe and happy place to learn, work and play. In partnership with our families, children are guided on a nurturing journey enabling them to be more confident, inquisitive, imaginative and empathetic learners. We aim to provide a carefully designed curriculum that is both exciting but also provides diverse, rich and memorable opportunities from which children can learn and ensures coverage and progression. We aim to raise pupil’s aspirations, promote a sense of pride in personal achievements, provide a purpose and relevance for learning and help every child find strengths and interests.
The Early Years Foundation Stage Covers the following areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
In the Early Years, play is an essential element of learning and is positively encourage within both the indoor and outdoor environments. Quality first interactions are part of our quality first teaching which allows children to develop their language, creativity, and thinking skills. Pupils in nursery have daily inputs linked to the different areas of learning including phonics which focuses on developing their ability to listen, copy and distinguish between different sounds. Pupils in Reception have daily inputs for phonics, maths, as well as other areas of learning.
Our Early Years teachers plan learning experiences considering both the children's individual needs and achievements, as well as a range of learning experiences that will assist them to make progress. Well planned play is a key way in which children learn with enjoyment and challenge during the Foundation Stage. Children deepen their understanding by playing, talking, observing, planning, questioning, experimenting, testing, repeating, reflecting and responding to adults and to each other.
Our learning environment is made up of areas which reflect all areas of the curriculum. Here children can make their own choices, encouraging them to play and explore. They can be active learners and are able to create and think critically. We operate an indoor/outdoor learning experience for our young children, where they can move freely between both areas. Links are made between both learning environments, to ensure that all children receive a rich and varied curriculum that supports their learning and development.
