Temporary Classroom:       Over the next few weeks, we are having a temporary classroom delivered and installed opposite the Year 2 classrooms (where the see-saw is). Can we ask that you follow any safety signs or instructions as it is set up to keep you and your children safe. We will be using it to teach an additional Year 2 class due to the number of children in Coventry who need school places.

6ST’s Class Assembly:       6ST shared a very informative assembly with us on Friday 24th November all about World War One. We were fascinated to hear that children were given important jobs during the war, such as delivering milk and medical supplies. 6ST were able to recall many of these facts from memory, demonstrating their amazing retrieval practice, which is a whole school focus at the moment. Milan and Juliette read out the diary entries that they had written, from the perspective of a soldier. We all enjoyed the children sharing the poppies that they had made and hearing them sing an adapted version of “Pack up your Troubles.”

Cinema Visits:     On Thursday 23rd November, Year 2 enjoyed a trip to the Showcase Cinema to watch Epic Tails. It is the story of a mouse with dreams of travel and big adventure. Year 2 have been learning about the Romans in History and found many similarities between what they have learned and the setting of the film, which was in Greece. Our Reception children were treated to a wonderful cinema experience where they saw two films: the Smeds and the Smods and Superworm. For some children, this was the first time they had been to a cinema but all were amazingly well behaved and were enthralled by the experience.  Of course the trip wouldn't be complete without popcorn and a drink, which was thoroughly enjoyed and munched down during the film. Thanks to Rugby Cineworld for their friendly and welcoming staff! On Monday 20th November, 4NL visited the Odeon cinema in town as part of the Into Film Festival. They were very excited and thoroughly enjoyed watching Super Mario Bros 2. All of the children were exceptionally well-behaved and they showed excellent manners. At the end of the film, the children broke out into a round of applause and they sang along to the ‘Peaches’ song too. They had a fabulous day!

Safe Touch Workshop:       On Monday 20th November, 6CB participated in a workshop run by the charity CRASAC. Throughout the session, the children considered different scenarios where they may feel scared and then worked in groups to decide which of the following categories the scenario fell into: 'fun to feel scared', 'risking on purpose', 'unsafe' or 'safe'. Some of the scenarios considered were: going to the dentist, riding on a rollercoaster, being approached by a stranger and going to the dentist. The children then discussed the meaning of 'personal space' and explored how it feels when somebody enters your personal space. All of the children showed great maturity during the workshop and were all able to identify the best steps to take in situations where they may feel unsafe.

Blue Light Visit:                      On Friday 17th November, we were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from our local police force. They came into assembly and shared the equipment that they have to carry at all times to keep themselves and others safe. They also brought a van with them and many of our children were fortunate enough to get up close to see the flashing blue lights and hear the noisy sirens – we hope it didn’t disturb our neighbours too much!

Children in Need:     On Friday 17th November, our children were given the opportunity to purchase toys or books from our Children in Need toy sale. The children enjoyed browsing amongst the wonderful donations that you provided and all of the proceeds will be passed on to Children in Need. We must give a huge thank you to Mrs Kriaun, Mrs Walker and Jodie and Noreen (from Hays) for all their organisation and support.

Cinema Visits: Year 3 and 4 went to see Mario Brothers 2 at the cinema on Wednesday 15th November. They were incredibly well behaved and really enjoyed the film. They all clapped at the end of the film and were so grateful for the opportunity to visit the cinema, as well as the snacks they were provided with. It was a lovely morning and a wonderful experience for all. Listening to the children singing 'Peaches' was definitely the highlight!  On the same day, Year 5 visited the Odeon cinema in the city centre and watched Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. All of the children loved the film and especially enjoyed eating their popcorn and sweets as they were watching it! They were brilliantly behaved and represented Moat House really well.

Free Toothbrushes:     We have been fortunate enough to be donated with enough toothbrushes and toothpaste for all of our children. This has been the perfect opportunity to remind our children about the tooth and mouth hygiene and the importance of brushing our teeth at least twice a day. These were given out to the children on Wednesday 15th November.

Safe Touch Workshop:       On Monday 13th November, the charity CRASAC came to work with the children in 6ST. During the session, the children discussed various situations, such as riding a rollercoaster or being approached by a stranger, and decided how safe or unsafe they would feel in these scenarios. The children were then able to identify early warning signs to understand when they felt unsafe. The workshop went on to discuss personal space and other important topics, including knowing that your body belongs to you. 6ST showed maturity and respect during the workshop and were engaged throughout the afternoon.

4NL’s Class Assembly:      What a great performance we enjoyed on Friday 10th November! 4NL did an excellent job of telling us all about the Ancient Greeks, which is what they have been learning about in their history lessons. We found out about how heroic the Spartans were, about how democracy began in Greece and about how the Ancient Greek philosophers found out more about the world by looking and questioning things. There were also some amazing rapping Greek gods. Well done, 4NL! You were all brilliant!

Year 6 Cinema:    On Thursday 9th November, all Year 6 children went to Cineworld in Rugby to watch the movie 'The Railway Children Return'. The film had direct links to our history topics that we will be learning later this year, including the Suffragettes and World War Two. All children said that they enjoyed the film and some children even became a little emotional at the happy ending! Additionally, every child behaved exceptionally and were a credit to Moat House!

Grow Workshop:  On Wednesday 8th November, our Year 1 children enjoyed a morning at the Daimler Powerhouse Studios. The children were fascinated by a performance, which told a story through body movements and recycled materials with a very important message about looking after the planet. The children then verbally retold the story and left with the understanding that every single person can do their bit to look after the environment and prevent climate change.

Year 5 Dodgeball Competition:        On Tuesday 7th November, eight children from Year 5 represented the school in a dodgeball tournament at the AT7 centre. They played against four other schools and were graded on their teamwork skills and on the respect that they showed to their opponents during and after the match. All of the children were really well behaved and represented Moat House brilliantly.

Movie Night:       On Tuesday 7th November, we welcomed parents and children in to school where they enjoyed the movie “Super Mario Brothers.” Snacks and drinks were provided and everyone enjoyed family time together. Watch this space for the next parent and child event.
