Lower Key Stage 2

Introduction:

Welcome to the Lower Key Stage 2 website area.

There are five classes within this phase: 3KS, 3EW, 3ML, 4MW and 4NL. Every morning, we have English, guided reading and mathematics lessons. In the afternoons we study Spanish, RE, PE,  music, computing and life skills. We also learn history, geography, design technology and art through resources adapted and developed from the Primary Knowledge Curriculum.

Within our phase, children are encouraged and supported to have secure knowledge and recall of their times tables facts. Children are encouraged to use TT Rockstars as much as possible to support with this. Here are some additional online resources that may help:

Times Tables Games for 7 to 11 year olds

Times tables games and songs 1-12 - BBC Bitesize

Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds

Play Highway Times Tables at timestables.co.uk

Please see class windows for half termly updates of when your child will participate in PE (outdoor or indoor). It would be great if children could bring a suitable change of clothes: white t shirt, black shorts or joggers and pumps or trainers. Unless unsafe, children be taking part in outdoor PE lessons so please make sure your children have appropriate clothes for the weather.

Swimming in Year 4:

The Year 4 children participate in swimming lessons. The swimming teacher groups the children according to their ability and develops their swimming skills, which range from developing their confidence in water, to building their swimming stamina to enable them to swim for 25 metres, which is the national expectation for the end of Key Stage 2. It would be really beneficial if parents could support this learning by taking children to the local swimming baths, after school or at weekends as it is a skill which could save their life. Please remember: for swimming lessons, boys need to wear swimming trunks that are above the knee and girls need to wear an all in one swimming costume.
