EYFS Nativity:     On Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th December, it was a delight to be able to see our youngest children perform on stage and to welcome parents in to school to also enjoy the experience,. Miss Renshaw penned the nativity style performance “We’re going on a Special Baby Hunt” and we all thoroughly enjoyed seeing traditional characters including angels, stars and shepherds. The children sang some beautiful songs and made us all very proud.

Parents’ Evening: On Monday 5th and Wednesday 7th December, we held our first face to face parents’ evening since 2019! It was lovely for staff to be able to share your children’s progress and achievements in this way and we hope that you found the information useful with tips and guidance, as to how you can help your child at home.

Mental Health Support:      On Monday 5th December, Lauren and Katie from the Mental Health in Schools team (MHST) came to visit Year 5 to teach us about some ways to relieve stress and what to do when our moods were low. One of the activities that we took part in was dancing, which put most of us in a good mood! On Wednesday 7th December, Y3 took part in a creating calm workshop. We learnt how to identify the signs of anxiety and the effect that this can have on our thoughts, emotions and behaviour. We now understand that anxiety is the way that your body reacts to help keep you safe. Finally, we learnt some mindfulness strategies and breathing techniques to help us if we are ever feeling worried about something.

6ST’s Class Assembly:       Thank you to 6ST, who shared a wonderful assembly on Friday 2nd December, all about the work they have been doing around the story book “Holes.” The children have produced some amazing writing and artwork and their performance demonstrated their enthusiasm for the story. A special mention must go to Jan for his very authentic Texan accent and Poppy, Ava-Jayne, Xavier, Wiktoria and Jaiden for their rapping during a very catchy song.

Y6 Athletics:       On Wednesday 30th November, thirty Year 6 pupils took part in an indoor athletics competition at the AT7 sports centre. This involved competing in a range of activities from relay races to javelin and the triple jump. Although we did not score enough points to progress to the next round, all children tried their hardest and we did manage to win some of the races! All of the students were perfectly behaved and were great role models for Moat House. Well done Year 6.

School Council Visit to Castle Wood:           On Monday 28th November, our Key Stage 2 School Councillors visited Castle Wood to share ideas about how they can improve the joint site. They decided that they would like to reduce litter on the shared site and improve safety in the car park ie: reducing vehicle speed and improving car parking. The School Councillors are going to share these ideas with their classes and will design posters to display around the site.

3NL’s Class Assembly:    Thank you to 3NL for sharing a fantastic class assembly with us on Friday 18th November. It was all about Children in Need and reminded us that things that we want aren’t necessarily what we need. They reminded us that the things we need include: shelter, food, clothing, medical care and protection from harm. The assembly finished with a topical Children in Need song – well done 3NL!

Children in Need:    On Friday 18th November, we came in to school wearing football shirts/kits or colours of a country involved in the World Cup. This was to raise money for Children in Need – we also invited children to bring in any spare change/bronze coins that they may have hanging around at home. Thanks for your support.

Hope:     Key Stage 2 really enjoyed a thought provoking performance called Hope on Thursday 17th November. It is a play about bullying and it linked in with our anti-bullying week activities. After the play, the actors did workshops with our Year 4, 5 and 6 children.

Anti-Bullying Week:    Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event, which aims to raise awareness of bullying of children and young people, in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. We started our week on Monday 14th November with 'Odd Socks Day' and continued to promote the week through identifying acts of kindness around our school.

6CB’s Class Assembly:       It was a joy to watch our first class assembly for approximately two and a half years on Friday 4th November and especially to welcome parents in to join us! The children of 6CB did themselves proud and shared their learning about Greek mythology. Lamin played his role to perfection as the wicked Zeus and Aiza played a dramatic Pandora. The children ended the assembly with a catchy Olympian rap, which had us all wanting to join in. Thanks 6CB!

Pudsey Visit:       On Friday 4th November, we enjoyed a surprise visit from Pudsey Bear! Pudsey came to visit Moat House to deliver some Children in Need merchandise and also to remind us all that Children in Need day is coming soon - Friday 18th November. The merchandise will be available for children to buy at playtimes from Monday. Costings are as follows: Pudsey ears - £2.50, wrist bands and pin badges - £1. The School Council have consulted with their classes and have decided that they would like to come into school on 18th November, wearing either football shirts/kits or clothing with colours of a country’s flag who will be representing the World Cup, as this will be starting very soon. Please could children bring in a contribution of 50p (or what you can afford) in exchange for this.

YR trip to Coombe Country Park:     On Wednesday 2nd November, our Reception children enjoyed an autumnal walk through the grounds of Coombe Abbey. The children spent time spotting and studying signs of autumn, completing a scavenger hunt, and completing leaf and bark rubbings.  Much fun was had climbing over logs, walking through the woods and retelling the story of the bear hunt but the children were most fascinated by the colours of all the different trees!  To finish the day off the children had the opportunity to play in the woodland playground.

On Monday 17th October, Year 6 took part in a workshop with the Mental Health in Schools Team. This involved learning all about changes that we could and couldn't control and provided different strategies for coping with these changes. The children participated fully in discussions during this session and were very sensible when sharing their ideas. One key change that children wanted to learn more about was moving to secondary school and the team were able to provide them with some coping methods for dealing with this transition when they move schools next September.

    Reception find their way:

On Thursday 13th October, Reception were set a challenge using the skills they have been learning in class. They needed to find hidden clues to write a shopping list, using their phonics sounds. They were given a simple map of the school site and had to navigate their way to find the clues. Each clue had a picture of an ingredient and the phonics sound to help them with their writing. The children all wrote their own shopping list of the ingredients that they needed to make cakes in school on Friday. They had so much fun and learned a lot about map work, whilst practising their writing. They can’t wait to make and eat their cakes!

    School Council:

Our school councillors met on Thursday 13th October and now have a lot to discuss with their classes. This term, they are considering how to encourage healthy snacks at playtime, how to incorporate more kindness, especially during anti-bullying week, how to work more closely with our neighbouring school, Castle Wood and how to follow and celebrate the football World Cup. Watch this space for more information!

    Macmillan Fundraiser:

Thank you for supporting our recent coffee morning and cake sales. We raised the grand total of £500.88, which is a lot more than we raised last year! What an achievement - thank you everyone!
