Year 2 Trip to Conkers:      Year 2 spent a fun-filled, action-packed day at Conkers on Wednesday 25th October. It was go, go, go from start to finish! The children tackled an assault course and maze before lunch and then enjoyed a train ride to an enormous outdoor play area. There were swings, climbing frames, a zip line and slides. 2EW had fun watching an outdoor 'Ghostbuster' show in an amphitheatre and tried plate spinning whilst 2BD enjoyed a 4D cinema experience. At the end of the day, the children were allowed to choose a 'trick or treat' from an enormous cauldron and bring a surprise home. In the words of Luke, ”'It was the best day ever”. Lochan said, “It was awesome!” Well done to all of Year 2 for representing Moat House so incredibly. A great way to end the half term.

Hallowe’en Fun:       In the week beginning 23rd October, our children enjoyed dressing up in their Hallowe’en themed costumes and all had great fun at their disco.

6CB’s Class Assembly:  On Friday 13th October, it was wonderful to share our first class assembly of the year – 6CB did not disappoint and were very enthusiastic about the class novel that they have been reading: The Nowhere Emporium. They have been writing vlogs about the book and Mariana, Raluca, David and Khamil did a super job of presenting the vlog that they had written about the appearance of the mystical shop.

World Mental Health Day: On Tuesday 10th October, it was World Mental Health Day and we recognised this by beginning the week with an assembly to help our children to spot the signs of low mood and strategies that could help them. During this week, the children have also watched an online production entitled “How are You?”

Year 3 Local Walk:       On Tuesday 10th October, the Year 3 children enjoyed a walk around the local area. They used the map reading skills that they have been learning in their geography lessons to follow an ordnance survey map. They were able to locate key places in Wood End. They also completed a scavenger hunt to see what physical features they could see, such as vegetation and rivers. The children had a lovely time and learned lots about their local area.

Parents’ Event: On Tuesday 10th October, it was wonderful to welcome lots of parents in to school to launch our latest parental engagement project. Mr Gilmour shared that there will be a weekly after school club for parents to attend with their children so that they can spend quality time together with a focus, lead by the school. This initial meeting was to gather ideas for what parents and children would enjoy. Mr Gilmour will be leading the first event of Movies and Munchies on Tuesday 7th November. Look out for a letter next week with more information.

Swimming Lessons: Our Year 4 and some Year 5 children enjoyed developing their swimming skills in our “pop up pool” in the week beginning 9th October. They had a swimming lesson every single day. Melaher said, “swimming has been fun. I have learnt how to float, I can hold my breath for longer and I can swim properly now.”

Macmillan Coffee Morning:     Thank you to all of our parents, family and friends, who attended our coffee morning on Friday 29th September and ensured that it was a great success. We also welcomed our RISE Team in to school and they spoke to everyone about how to help with the signs and symptoms of early mental health issues. They gave five ways to wellbeing ie: connect, keep learning, be active, take notice and give and gave practical ideas for how you can help if you experience feelings like low mood. The children did not miss out on the cake sale and enjoyed buying a cake (or two) to support Macmillan during the day.

School Council Visit to Parliament:     On Wednesday 27th September, last year’s School Council members enjoyed a trip to London, where they experienced a boat trip along the River Thames and had fun spotting some famous landmarks, including Tower Bridge and Big Ben. Following this, they were treated to a tour of the Houses of Parliament, where they were even allowed to enter the Houses of Lords and Commons. They learnt many interesting facts and were fascinated to learn that the King is not allowed to enter the House of Commons! The children then participated in a workshop and enjoyed putting their arguments across to each other – Ihab did a super job of acting as the speaker and enjoyed instructing everyone to behave themselves! The children behaved beautifully throughout the day and were a real credit to Moat House.

Parents’ Evening: Thank you to everyone who attended the ‘settling in’ parents’ evening in the week commencing 25th September It is important that we meet with you throughout the year so that we can update you with your child’s life at school.

Welcome Back:     It was great to see the children back in school on Tuesday 5th September and I hope that they have all enjoyed their first few days in their new classes. They were all very smartly dressed and looked wonderful! The Year 6 children looked especially grown up in their new black sweatshirts and seem ready to take on the mantle of being role models for the rest of the school. I am looking forward to another exciting year at Moat House and look forward to meeting you at Parents’ Evening, class assemblies or on the playground at the start or end of the school day.

Macmillan Coffee morning:           On Friday 22nd September, we will be holding a non-uniform day in exchange for a donation of shop bought cakes (which will need to be in date and edible for at least a week). The following week (Friday 29th September), we will be participating in the national Macmillan coffee morning. Parents, carers, relatives and friends are invited to join us in the school dining area from 9:15 am – 10:15 am, to enjoy a coffee (or tea) and a cake for a small donation. Our children, of course, will not be missing out - there will be a cake sale during the day, so children are invited to bring along 20p to buy a cake. We look forward to welcoming you in school and we would like to thank you for supporting us to raise money for the fabulous work that the Macmillan nurses do.

School Bank:  On Tuesday, the Moat House School Bank will be open again for anyone who wishes to make a deposit or a withdrawal. Many of our children have now opened accounts and are saving hard for things like spending money for their holidays or Christmas presents. If your child would like to begin saving using the School Bank, please complete an application form and bring your first deposit along to the bank, which is open every Tuesday morning at 8:40 am. Forms are available from the school office.
