Mental Health Awareness in Year 5
Tue 25 Jan 2022On Wednesday 19th January, Year 5 were involved in a Mental Health Awareness workshop, in which they learned what mental health is. The class discussed their worries and that it is normal to feel anxious sometimes. The children learned strategies to help them manage anxiety, including the ‘box breathing’ technique and a method to control breathing whilst sketching around their hand. Year 5 were also reminded of the importance of sleep on their mental health, learning that sleep is key in helping the body to recover. Year 5 were engaged in the session and had a lovely afternoon!

Covid
Tue 18 Jan 2022As we have had several positive cases across the school in the week ending January 14th, we now require children to get a negative PCR result, if anyone in their household has Covid. This is to reduce the spread of Covid within the school. Unfortunately, some of the children who have Covid had tested negative the day before their positive result and had been in school that day. Parents of children in the affected year groups have been notified and asked to do a LFT with their child every morning for 7 days before they come to school. Children who tested positive this week can return to school if they have recovered and have negative LFT results on day 6 and day 7 which are 24 hours apart - they can then come back the following day. These timings will change from Monday following the government's new guidelines. We will apply the new rules from Monday for anyone who catches Covid from 17th January onwards.

Healthy Eating Week
Tue 18 Jan 2022In the week commencing 10th January, our children took part in Healthy Eating Week, where there was a focus on learning about the benefits of eating healthily. The children learnt that it is important to eat a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates and plenty of fruit, vegetables and water and that treats can be enjoyed in moderation. We hope that they can encourage everyone at home to adopt good food habits to benefit the whole family.

EYFS and KS1 Visit to Hatton
Wed 05 Jan 2022On Tuesday 14th December, Foundation and Key Stage 1 enjoyed a trip to Hatton Country World, where they got to experience a variety of activities including a show, feeding some very hungry goats and sheep as well as looking at animals in the scales and tails area, including snakes and lizards. They also got to play on lots of different playgrounds and chose a toy from the toy shop, as they had been so well behaved! The children were all brilliant ambassadors for Moat House and had a fantastic time! Special thanks to Miss Wetton for organising it.

Festive Fun
Wed 05 Jan 2022On Wednesday 15th December, we all got into the Christmas spirit and participated in Christmas jumper day. Thank you to everyone who contributed with donations - we managed to raise £112, which will be given to Save the Children for all their fantastic work. We all also enjoyed a traditional festive lunch; the children were served with turkey, vegetables, stuffing and gravy, followed by mince pies and ice cream, whilst listening to some festive music.

Farewell Elaine
Wed 05 Jan 2022On Thursday 16th December, we wished Elaine Wilson farewell after an amazing thirty three years of service to Coventry City Council at Moat House Primary School. Elaine has been a loyal and committed worker throughout her time as a Senior Dinner Supervisor and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when she finally hung up her whistle and left the building yesterday!

Switch off Fortnight
Mon 29 Nov 2021The final day for Switch off fortnight was Friday 19th November. It was observed during these two weeks that children (and adults!) became a lot more conscious about switching off appliances and turning off lights. We took meter readings before and afterwards and found that we had used 17% less energy over the fortnight, which is a significant saving! So well done to everybody and just because the official fortnight is over, it doesn’t mean that we should abandon our new habits – let’s keep switching off to save money and save the planet!

Year 5 Visits
Mon 29 Nov 2021On Thursday 25th November, Year 5 visited the National Space Centre in Leicester. We explored the six galleries there. In the 'Space Oddities' gallery, we were able to see some unusual objects, which revealed some of the less well-known stories in space history. We also explored the forty two metre high 'Rocket Tower' where we were able to see some real rockets. We also watched the show 'Astronauts' in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium. During the show, we were able to experience a rocket launch from inside the body of an astronaut. We were also able to explore the amazing worlds of inner and outer space, from floating around the International Space Station to manoeuvring through microscopic regions of the human body. We all had a fantastic day and learned lots of information to support our learning in our upcoming science lessons!
