5JK’s Class Assembly:
Mon 01 May 2023On Friday 28th April, we enjoyed finding out about the learning in 5JK. They have been discovering information about Australia and were able to share many interesting facts. We were fascinated to find out that Australia is thirty two times bigger than the United Kingdom and that 80% of the country consists of desert! Finally, we thoroughly enjoyed listening to the musical talents of Philip, Ibtihaj, Tyrone, Leo and Zackarie, who played a musical extract on their brass instruments - they have learnt so much in their music lessons this year. Thanks 5JK.

School Timings:
Mon 24 Apr 2023Last year the Government stated that a school week should be at least 32.5 hours from when the morning register is done until the children go home. This means that our school day is currently 10 minutes too short. We will be consulting with parents over the coming weeks to find out what your preferred change would be; either we do morning registers at 8.50am (doors will open at 8.40am) or we finish at 3.30pm instead of 3.20pm. You will get a text to tell you when the consultation has begun.

Wonder Wall:
Mon 24 Apr 2023After the Easter holiday, our Year 6 children were surprised and very impressed with the new music wall, which has been installed in the Year 6 corridor. The music wall is a unique design and illustrates the history and development of music over the years from 1473 to the present day. It even features QR codes, which can be scanned to listen to a particular piece of music – we can’t wait to share this with the rest of the school!

King’s Coronation:
Mon 24 Apr 2023On Friday 5th May, we are planning a range of exciting activities to celebrate the King’s Coronation. On this day, children are invited to come in to school dressed in red, white and blue (or even regal purple). They will also spend the day participating in a range of activities including making flags, crowns, designing paper plates, enjoying a picnic and taking part in a whole school coronation quiz.

World Maths Day:
Mon 27 Mar 2023On Thursday 23rd March, we invited children to come to school dressed or represented as a number to acknowledge World Maths Day. There were dots, sequins and numbers galore and class teachers took the opportunity to explore maths and demonstrate that maths is all around us and affects everything we do.

Debating Competition:
Mon 27 Mar 2023On Tuesday 20th March, the following children Aysam, Juliette, Laycie (Y5), Lamin, Lenny and Raisa (Year 6) went to Wyken Croft school to represent Moat House in a debating competition. The children all worked hard to research information and then present this to an audience, which included teachers and children from other Coventry schools. The Year 5 team had to argue that zoos should be banned, whilst the Year 6 team had to debate against the banning of single use plastics. Both teams did really well but the Year 6 team had particularly strong arguments and actually won their debate. Well done to everyone who took part – we are extremely proud of you all!

Mothers’ Day:
Fri 17 Mar 2023Thank you to all who visited the pop up Mothers’ day shop in the week beginning 13th March - this was a huge success and we did sell out on a few occasions. The children enjoyed choosing a special gift that they thought their loved ones would like. On Friday 17th March, the children in Early Years enjoyed appreciating the special ladies in their lives. Mums, nans and aunties were invited into school to enjoy Mothers’ day activities, as well as afternoon tea. They all had a lovely time and left school with a daffodil, full tummies and wonderful memories!

Visit to Cardinal Wiseman:
Fri 17 Mar 2023On Tuesday 14th March, some children from Year 5 and 6 (who may be going to Cardinal Wiseman for their secondary school) had an opportunity to visit the school and participate in different activities. First, the children were able to meet the Headteacher and ask him questions. Then, the children learned how to calculate the age of a tree and the length of its roots. After that, there was a competition to design a bird house, with the winning design being made for the school site. Lastly, the children went onto the field to plant some trees, which will grow with them, during their time at secondary school. It was a fantastic day and the children had a great time!
