We began British Science Week (Monday 14^th March) with an assembly involving Professor Bunsen, who shared some simple experiments that can be done around the home with everyday items – don’t worry we have reminded the children not to try anything at home without the permission and supervision of an adult! The theme this year is growth and over this week, the children have engaged in science activities that have hopefully sparked their interest in science and technology and will encourage them to want to learn more.  If you want to get involved, please have a look at the website: https://www.britishscienceweek.org/

We will be having our Spring Term Parents' Evenings during week beginning 21^st March. These will be online again and you will be invited via email to make an appointment with your child/ren's class teacher.

Year 4 experienced an emotional awareness workshop on Tuesday 8^th March, which gave the children a better knowledge and understanding of emotional regulation. It was acknowledged that we all have feelings, which can sometimes be big or small depending on different situations. The children were then given the opportunity to recognise when and why they had felt emotional and they were given strategies to help with calming themselves down in those situations. The children were very engaged and asked thoughtful questions throughout the session.

On Thursday 3^rd March, children across the school celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book characters. We had some fantastic costumes, ranging from fairy tale characters to those from manga graphic novels. Throughout the day, children took part in live online workshops with famous authors and illustrators, which gave children an insight into the hard work that goes into their jobs as well as giving them the chance to write about (or draw) their own characters. Everybody had a great day and it was lovely to see the effort that went into their costumes – thank you for your support.

Some of our Year 3 children took part in a workshop on Wednesday 2^nd March, where they discussed different moods and why people may feel sad or unhappy. The children participated in an activity to help them understand the difference between thoughts and feelings and were given suggestions about how to change sad thoughts into more positive thoughts or to do something that makes them feel happy. They were also encouraged to think about who they could speak to if they feel sad or are experiencing a low mood. 

Friday 18^th February was the last day of Cool to be Kind week which was a great success. Children were even kinder and more helpful than usual and achieved stickers for their actions. Well done everyone!

Year 1 visited the mosque on Stoney Stanton Road (Masjid Zeenatul Islam) on Monday 14^th February. The staff and children were all made very welcome and they learned lots about mosques and how they are special places of worship for Muslims. The children arrived back at school with crisps and chocolate treats which they enjoyed as a little snack after their trip.
