Last Week's News 6th Sept 24
Mon 09 Sep 2024Welcome Back: It was great to see the children back in school on Tuesday and I hope that they have all enjoyed their first few days in their new classes. They were all very smartly dressed and looked wonderful! The Year 6 children looked especially grown up in their new black sweatshirts and seem ready to take on the mantle of being role models for the rest of the school. I am looking forward to another exciting year at Moat House and look forward to meeting you at Parents’ Evening, class assemblies or on the playground at the start or end of the school day.
New Start Time: Thanks to you all for getting your child/ren in to school before our new bell time of 8.45am. Starting at this time means that our school day now matches the government requirements.
Class Assemblies: Please make a note of your child’s class assembly date, as detailed below. It is always a joy for us to invite you into school to share with you what your children have been learning.

Healthy Food and Drink: Please remember to bring a named water bottle to school every day for your child. Children can drink water throughout the day and refill their bottle at school. Please do not send your child into school with any other drink eg: squash or fizzy drinks. Also a reminder that children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 have access to healthy snacks on a daily basis. Key Stage 2 children are welcome to bring in healthy snacks at playtime, as long as they don’t contain nuts.
Asda Rewards: If you shop at Asda and have the Asda rewards app on your phone, can you please nominate us in the Cashpot for schools section. They will then make a donation to us for every pound spent on shopping. Please also ask friends and relatives to do the same. Any money raised will be spent directly on the children. The promotion lasts until the end of November and it takes less than a minute to nominate us.
School Bank: On Tuesday 10th September, the Moat House School Bank will be open once again for anyone who wishes to make a deposit or a withdrawal. Many of our children have now opened accounts and are saving hard for things like spending money for their holidays or Christmas presents. If your child would like to begin saving using the School Bank, please complete an application form and bring your first deposit along to the bank, which is open every Tuesday morning at 8:35 am. Forms are available from the school office.
Gifts: On behalf of all of the staff I'd like to say thank you for all the cards, gifts and kind words that you gave us at the end of the Summer Term. Everything was greatly appreciated.

Mon 02 Sep 2024Summer Wishes: I’d like to wish our Year 6 children ‘all the best’ as they move on to their new schools in September and I hope that you all have a very happy and safe summer and look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 3rd September (remember doors will now open 5 minutes earlier at 8.35am and registers will be done at 8.45am – our new start time.
Year 6 Party: To celebrate the end of their time at Moat House, Year 6 attended a summer themed leavers' party on Thursday 18th July. All children were given a Hawaiian-style flower garland and sunglasses to finish off their beach party outfits. They enjoyed dancing the night away to their favourite songs and posing for photos in the photo booth. As well as enjoying their disco, they also had a bouncy castle, which was a big hit! All of the children had a fantastic time and we hope it was a great way to finish off their final week at primary school.
Tea in the Park: On Wednesday 17th July, we invited children to come into school in non-uniform in exchange for a contribution to the charities of the University Hospital in Walsgrave. Parents were also invited to join us and their children for afternoon tea on the school field. This was a great success and everyone had a lovely time – we even saw the sunshine for the afternoon! We managed to raise £202.05 so thank you to everyone who supported us!
Year 6 Performance: On Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th July, our Year 6 children performed their Leavers’ performance “A Hint of Snow White” to a proud audience of friends and family. The children did a fantastic job of not only remembering their lines but also their stage positions. The singing was also incredible with some very brave soloists. Mariana and Dotun deserve special mentions as they were extremely convincing in their roles of the evil queen and the carpenter.
EYFS trip to Twin Lakes: On Tuesday 16th July, Nursery and Reception enjoyed a visit to Twin Lakes, where they experienced the thrills of the rides, a farm, soft play, climbing frames, as well as the water park. Not surprisingly, the water park was the firm favourite, as the children not only enjoyed the slides but were extremely excited to be able to soak their teachers! All of the children were very well behaved and had a fantastic time. Thank you to all the staff and parents who came and supported us on this trip.
Rock Steady Concert: On Tuesday 16th July, we enjoyed a star performance from our rock bands: The Black Dogs, The Superstars, The Metal Wasps and Ashy Smoke. Children from Year 1 through to Year 6 played or sang to us and they were all brilliant! We were all singing along to Shut Up and Dance, Never Gonna Give You Up, Firework and Roar. Thanks to Sophie, Will and Elise who are the Rock Steady crew and taught and supported our children.

Mon 15 Jul 2024Timings: It has come to our attention that our school day is 5 minutes short (despite extending it last year). To resolve this we will be starting 5 minutes earlier from September. Doors will now open at 8:35am with registration at 8:45am. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Governors’ Awards: On Thursday 11th July, a special ceremony was held to recognise children at Moat House, who have worked hard or shown good behaviour or attitude during the Summer term. The following children were awarded with a certificate and a voucher, in front of a very proud audience of parents, governors and staff, for their hard work and achievements.

Sports Day: Sports day was held on Thursday 11th July and all of the children competed to earn points for their houses in a range of activities, including discus, javelin and an obstacle course. As well as thoroughly enjoying the event, the children behaved brilliantly and this was complimented upon by Beth (our sports coach) who visits other schools and rated Moat House as being exemplary. We would like to say a huge thank you to parents, carers, friends and family for coming along to support the children and especially our Year 6 children who did a super job of supporting the younger children to ensure that the events ran smoothly.
Recorder Concert Our Year 3 children performed for their parents and carers on Wednesday 10th July; some of the other KS2 classes were also in the audience. They played a few pieces as a whole year group and a few in individual classes. The children were magnificent and a real credit to their music teacher (Miss Sinclair). We were all singing Eye of the Tiger for the rest of the afternoon!
