Macmillan Coffee Morning:          Thank you to all of our parents, family and friends, who attended our coffee on Friday 25^th September and ensured that it was a great success. The children did not miss out on the cake sale and enjoyed buying a cake (or two) to support Macmillan during the day. We will let you know how much we have managed to raise in a future newsletter.

 

Parents’ Evening: Thank you to everyone who attended the ‘settling in’ parents’ evening on Thursday 24^th September. It is important that we meet with you throughout the year so that we can update you with your child’s life at school. If you were unable to make the date, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to meet you at a more convenient time. There will be a further parents’ evening later on this term, where you will be invited to make an appointment to find out more information about your child’s progress and attainment.

 

Warwickshire Wildlife:   On Thursday 24^th September, we welcomed Sara from the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust (WWT) to our school for a day of learning about nature and wildlife. Following an assembly for Key Stage 2 about local nature reserves and the different ways we can encourage more wildlife in our school, Sara led an exciting workshop with 5BC. The children explored the school grounds, identified various plants and animals and even took part in fun activities demonstrating how wildlife creates nature corridors using tarpaulin and plastic balls. It was a fantastic day, and the children thoroughly enjoyed learning how we can all help support nature.

 

Building Connections:     Thank you to everyone who attended our LEGO Family Night on Wednesday 23^rd September. The evening provided a wonderful opportunity for families to spend quality time together, get involved in school life and enjoy some creative fun.

 

EON Visit: On Tuesday 22^nd September, Year 6 were visited by EON. They asked the children if they know about the natural resources of the earth like wind, solar power, plants and hydro. During the visit, the children worked in teams to use different materials to make a wind powered car in just fifteen minutes! The materials that were used were wooden skewers, a cardboard base, paper straws and seeded paper. Then the children had a race and the team called MELC, were the winners. We received some lovely feedback from EON, “the classes were fantastic, so engaged, enthusiastic and a real credit to the school.” Thanks to Yusra for helping with this report!

 

St. Chad’s Visit:         As part of their Geography learning on Tuesday 22^nd September, Year 1 took part in a short local walk to learn about cartographers - people who create and study maps. During the walk from Moat House School towards St Chad's Church, the children drew their own map symbols to represent key landmarks and the route they followed. They showed excellent behaviour, listened carefully to instructions and demonstrated a wonderful attitude to learning. Well done, Year 1!
