Year 4 Camping:    On Thursday 3rd July, there were lots of very excited Year 4 children because they had the opportunity to stay overnight at school in tents! Unlike last year, the weather was perfect, so the children all had a wonderful time playing rounders, parachute games and scavenger hunting. The children had the opportunity to use flint and steel to light a fire but only three people were successful: Vanshikaa, Omniya and Miss Collins! The highlight of the evening was a camp fire where everyone enjoyed s’mores.

Transition Day: On Wednesday 2nd July, all of our children were excited to be told their new classroom and teacher for September. They spent the whole day in their new classrooms and the children and staff enjoyed getting to know each other. These are the classes for the new academic year:

Sports Day:          Sports day was held on Tuesday 1st July for Key Stage 2 and Thursday 3rd July for Early Years and Key Stage 1. All of the children competed to earn points for their houses in a range of activities, including skipping, the javelin and an obstacle course. We would like to say a huge thank you to parents, carers, friends and family for coming along to support the children and especially our Year 6 children, who did a super job of supporting the younger children to ensure that the events ran smoothly. We will share the results in a future newsletter. We would like to say a special thank you to Wood End Chip shop for donating water to keep our children hydrated throughout the events.

Year 6 Bowling: On Monday 30th June, our Year 6 children were rewarded with a trip to Tenpin Bowling as a treat for their hard work leading up to SATs. The children all had a brilliant day and many even managed to get a strike - Joy was especially proud of herself when she did this! After bowling, the children chose to either play laser tag or to spend some time in the karaoke booth. All children were perfectly behaved and represented Moat House well, with some staff members even commenting on how brilliant their behaviour was. Well done Year 6!

2MM’s Class Assembly:         Thank you to 2MM, who shared what they have been learning recently in their class assembly on Friday 27th June. It was fascinating to hear how knowledgeable they have become about space, and as well as knowing the names of the planets, they know about some of the star constellations, as well as the phases of the moon. Thanks 2MM!

Year 1’s Busy Week:               On Monday 23rd June, Year 1 enjoyed a trip to a local mosque. During the visit, the children were given a guided tour and made meaningful connections to their recent learning in R.E. lessons. They had the opportunity to explore the classrooms within the mosque and compared them to their own learning environments. The children impressed us with their respectful behaviour, insightful observations, and curious questions that deepened their understanding. Year 1 also visited Bell Green Library in the week beginning 23rd June to return their books. Whilst there, the children listened to a story and had the chance to design and create a fox mask, which linked to the story. The children then chose a new book, which they took home along with their library card (if they had one). The children will then need to return the book back to the library by the 22nd July. The children also found out about the summer reading challenge. Children who are aged 5 and over can take part between 5th July and 5th September. The children need to visit the library at least three times and read at least six books. They will then be awarded with bubbles, medals and certificates! Remember the library is a great free activity, for all the family and will keep you busy, over the summer holiday!

Cross Country:         On Sunday 22nd June, fourteen children from our cross-country club attended the Coventry Children's Mile at the War Memorial Park. All of the children performed fantastically during the event and managed to run the whole mile. Not only did the children show great enthusiasm throughout the day, but they were all also great at encouraging and supporting each other during the event. A special mention to Glory, who ran the whole mile with Modesire and ensured she was never alone during the race - what a star!

Year 2 trip to Twycross Zoo:              On Thursday 19th June, Year 2 had an exciting trip to Twycross Zoo, and what a fantastic day it was! The children enjoyed looking at a wide range of animals from cheeky monkeys to majestic giraffes. We were surprised at how tall giraffes really were! We then explored the Gruffalo Discovery Land where the children enjoyed interactive exhibits and made their way through a butterfly farm. With the sun shining and temperatures high, we finished off the day by cooling down in the splash park. It was the perfect way to refresh after a busy day of exploring. All of the children did so well and made Moat House proud.

Year 3 River Walk:               On Wednesday 18th June, Year 3 enjoyed a local walk along the River Sowe. The weather was incredibly hot but this didn't stop us from taking the opportunity to climb trees, explore the environment for minibeasts, enjoy a picnic and finally going on a river walk. Melaher said, “I liked going in the river and seeing all the animals.” Colton said, “The best bit was going in the river because everyone got soaked.”

3KS Class Assembly:    On Friday 13th June, the whole school were treated to an assembly all about the mummification process. The children used props to demonstrate the gruesome process on Dorian, who kindly volunteered to be turned into a mummy in preparation for the afterlife! To end the assembly they treated us to a wonderful song. Well done and thanks 3KS!

Tour de France: The school football team returned to Coventry after a very enjoyable tournament in Hordain, France in the very early hours of Tuesday 10th June. The team did brilliantly and finished 6th out of 20 teams, having played against some very competitive European teams. The team won four out of the seven matches they played and this included a thrilling penalty shoot-out, which was decided by a fantastic save by Ezekiel, followed by Joshua scoring the winning goal! The children especially enjoyed experiencing European culture by staying with host families, which included them tasting local cuisine and trying to communicate in a mixture of English and French. For videos and photographs of the trip, please check out our X page (previously Twitter) @Moat_House.

Phonics Screening:       In the week commencing Monday 9th June, our Year 1 (and some Year 2) children showed off their amazing reading skills in the national phonic screening assessment. They used their sounds to read real words, as well as nonsense words. They all put in lots of effort and we are very proud of them. Parents will be informed of the results at the end of the school year.
