Year 2 Library Visit:    On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th October, the Year 2 classes followed a route that they had planned in geography lessons to get from Moat House Primary School to Bell Green Library. They looked for road names and key features to help them to know they were going the right way. They found lots of human features such as the bridge, shops, roads, houses, flats and the roundabout and they also identified the river, which is a physical feature. While at the library they were shown lots of maps of the local area then had chance to draw their own maps.

Year 3 Geography Walk:         On Tuesday 7th October, our Year 3 students enjoyed an exciting walk around the local area, as part of their geography learning. The children explored both physical and human geographical features, spotting things like hills, trees, rivers, roads, bridges, and buildings. When they returned, they looked at maps to plot out their journey and had fun identifying landmarks they recognised. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that helped bring their geography lessons to life!

Year 5 and 6 Internet Safety Workshops:        On Monday 6th October, Year 5 and Year 6 took part in an informative online safety workshop led by West Midlands Police. The session focused on how to stay safe while gaming, messaging and communicating online. The children learned about the importance of keeping personal information private and recognising the potential risks of sharing too much online. They also discussed age restrictions on games and apps, exploring why some content isn’t suitable for younger users. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great awareness of how to use technology responsibly and respectfully.

6JK’s Class Assembly:  On Friday 3rd October, we enjoyed the first class assembly of the year and were impressed with the amount of learning that 6JK have done after only a few weeks being back at school! They informed us about how amazing the human body is and explained the workings of the brain and nervous system, the heart and circulatory system, the lungs and respiratory system, the digestive system and finally the muscles and bones. They then reminded us about the healthy habits, like eating a balanced diet, exercising, getting enough sleep and limiting screen time, we should all adopt in order to keep our bodies in good shape. Thanks very much to 6JK!

Phonics in Reception:    On Thursday 2nd October, we welcomed parents and carers into school to find out about how we teach phonics at Moat House. Parents were then given the opportunity to watch their child being taught phonics in their groups. Please can you help your child at home by playing Fred games (eg: stroke the c-a-t, eat your e-gg and ch-i-p-s) and reading them a story at bedtime.

Macmillan Cake Sale: Thank you so much for your support with your contributions for our cake sale on Friday 26th September. We have managed to raise an amazing £663.99, which is significantly higher than last year, so thank you once again.

Macmillan Coffee Morning:        Thank you to all of our parents, family and friends, who attended our coffee morning on Friday 26th September and ensured that it was a great success. The children did not miss out on the cake sale and enjoyed buying a cake (or two) to support Macmillan during the day.

Parents’ Evening: Thank you to everyone who attended the ‘settling in’ parents’ evening on Thursday 25th September. It is important that we meet with you throughout the year so that we can update you with your child’s life at school. There will be a further parents’ evening later on this term, where you will be invited to make an appointment to find out more information about your child’s progress and attainment.

Year 1’s Local Walk:  On Tuesday 23rd September, both Year 1 classes went on a local walk as part of their geography learning. They became cartographers (map makers) and decided which symbols to draw on their own map of the local area. The children decided to make a symbol for Moat House School, St Chad's Church and the Wood End Chippy. They drew some great maps and understood the importance of maps being accurate for people to follow. They were all superbly behaved.

Fire Safety in Year 4: On Friday 19th September, Year 4 were visited by firefighters from Foleshill Fire Station. They talked to the children about fire, road and water safety. They helped the children to identify potential hazards, taught them what to do in an emergency and the important stop, drop and roll technique. Afterwards, they answered lots of the children’s questions too. Did you know that if you do not have a smoke alarm in your home, the fire service will fit one for you, free of charge? All you need to do, is call the fire station and they’ll come out to your home. They’ll also fix any broken or faulty smoke alarms too!

Feelings in Year 2:           On Monday 15th September, Year 2 joined a virtual session with the Coventry School Nursing Team. They used Inside Out characters to teach different feelings and emotions and ways that we can stay calm and relaxed when our emotions change. We also listened to the story Ruby's Worry by Tom Percival, which talks about the importance of talking about our worries and not keeping them to ourselves - a well recommended author if you ever visit the library!

School Council:    At the start of the school year, each class elected two children to represent their class on the Moat House School Council.  The aim of the School Council is to involve pupils in decision making, in and around the school. The following children are the successful candidates. who have been nominated by their peers for 2025 - 2026:

Nursery Places:              We currently have spaces in our Nursery for children who were born between 01/09/2022 to 31/08/2025. If you are interested in a place for your child, please call in at the school office.

Macmillan Coffee Morning:            On Friday 19th September, we will be holding a non-uniform day in exchange for a donation of shop bought cakes (which will need to be in date and edible for at least a week). Please also ensure that they do not contain nuts. The following week (Friday 26th September), we will be participating in the national Macmillan coffee morning. Parents, carers, relatives and friends are invited to join us in the school dining area from 9:00 am – 10:00 am, to enjoy a coffee (or tea) and a cake for a small donation. Our children, of course, will not be missing out - there will be a cake sale during the day, so children are invited to bring along 20p to buy a cake. We look forward to welcoming you in school and we would like to thank you for supporting us to raise money for the fabulous work that the Macmillan nurses do.

Welcome Back:     It was great to see the children back in school on Wednesday 3rd September and I hope that they have all enjoyed their first few days in their new classes. They were all very smartly dressed and looked wonderful! The Year 6 children looked especially grown up in their new black sweatshirts and seem ready to take on the mantle of being role models for the rest of the school, whilst our Reception children have settled into their first days of school life beautifully. I am looking forward to another exciting year at Moat House and look forward to meeting you at Parents’ Evening, class assemblies or on the playground at the start or end of the school day.

Class Assemblies: Please make a note of your child’s class assembly date, as detailed below. It is always a joy for us to invite you into school to share with you what your children have been learning.

London Visit:   On Thursday 4th September, last year’s School Council members enjoyed a trip to London, where they experienced a boat trip along the River Thames and had fun spotting some famous landmarks, including Tower Bridge and Big Ben. Following this, they were treated to a tour of the Houses of Parliament, where they were even allowed to enter the public galleries where they witnessed the Lords and MPs debating. The children also took part in a fun and interactive workshop and learnt that King Henry VIII used to play tennis in the Palace of Westminster The children behaved beautifully throughout the day and were a real
