Year 6 SATs
During Year 6, pupils take part in national assessments in English and mathematics, commonly referred to as SATs. These help to measure the progress children have made by the end of primary school and support their move into secondary school.
This year, the tests will take place from Monday 11 May to Thursday 14 May 2026, with each day focusing on specific assessments:
Monday 11 May: English Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling – Paper 1 (Grammar & Punctuation) and Paper 2 (Spelling)
Tuesday 12 May: English Reading – Paper 1
Wednesday 13 May: Mathematics – Paper 1 (Arithmetic) and Paper 2 (Reasoning)
Thursday 14 May: Mathematics – Paper 3 (Reasoning)
In the lead-up to the test week, pupils are supported through focused lessons, practice activities and revision sessions to build confidence and strengthen their skills. Parents can also support their children by listening to them read regularly at home and practising times tables, which helps consolidate essential knowledge for the tests.
Alongside academic preparation, we ensure that children are supported emotionally and encouraged to do their best, helping them approach the assessments with a positive attitude. To support this, we also run a breakfast club during SATs week, giving children a chance to relax, enjoy a healthy start to the day and settle in calmly before the tests begin.
