Navaratri Festival
Year Three have been learning about how religious worldviews can be expressed through art and architecture. We learned that dance is a form of art.
Today in RE we learnt about different types of religious dance and had a go at performing a dance associated with the Hindu harvest festival of Navaratri.
Navratri is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu calendar.
It's celebrated all over the world, typically falling between September and October and lasts for nine days.
Nav means nine and Ratri means nights.
People come together during Navratri to celebrate Durga, the mother goddess who carries lots of weapons in her arms.
This celebration involves lots of dancing.
