Focus on our Future

Careers Event:

On Tuesday 8th July, our Year 6 pupils took part in our much-anticipated annual careers event. This exciting day gave our learners the chance to experience what it’s like to apply for a job, as they were interviewed by real-world employers and professionals from a variety of industries.

The event began with a careers fair, where the children explored a wide range of job opportunities and gathered information about the roles available. Afterwards, they completed application forms and wrote persuasive covering letters to support their job applications. In true professional style, each pupil then contacted the school office to schedule their own interview slot.

Arriving at school dressed smartly and full of anticipation, the children approached the day with great maturity and enthusiasm. Throughout the afternoon, they took part in formal interviews conducted by our wonderful volunteers, gaining valuable insight into the world of work and interview etiquette.

We are extremely grateful to Donna from RFG Financial, Matt from Selco, PC Watson from West Midlands Police, Allan from Grinsell’s Home and Garden Maintenance, and our dedicated school governors, all of whom generously gave their time and expertise to support our pupils.

It was a truly inspiring day, and we’re already looking forward to running the event again next year!

In Control Project;

Some of our children have been involved in a project to support boys aged 8-11. The project  focused on supporting boys with their emotional regulation, physical conduct and future aspirations. The project was lead by Coventry Poet Laureate John Bernard and consisted of several sessions to support the boys into making responsible choices and considering their options and aspirations, as they move into secondary school and beyond. Please see the photographs and a video that celebrates the work that the children participated in and demonstrates the positive experience that the children found it to be.

Year 6 Aspirations:

Some of our Year 6 children participated in an Aspirations workshop at Little Heath Primary School on Tuesday 4th March. The workshops included Severn Trent Water, a construction company, the Armed Forces, as well as the Prince’s Trust. The workshops gave the children the opportunity to listen to stories and achievements and they were able to ask questions about potential future careers. The children all came away feeling very inspired! Another fifteen children visited Warwick University to learn more about university life. First, they participated in an engineering workshop, where they had to build the tallest tower they could out of paper. The tower had to have a working light at the top so it required a lot of problem-solving to ensure the circuit was long enough! After that, the children learnt about different aspects of university, including the range of courses and societies available to them. They were given the opportunity to ask current university students questions about the application process and their subjects. They ended the day with a tour of the campus and completed a sculpture trail to see the lovely artwork in the area. Overall, the children had a great day and are excited about the prospect of going to university in the future!

Veloce Racing

We are proud to have been approached by Veloce Racing to interview one of their racing drivers (Kevin Hansen) in November 2024 to help them to make a promotional video. The children enjoyed learning interview techniques and were especially interested in finding out how they could become racing car drivers themselves in the future! See the finished product below....

Veloce Racing

E.ON Next Veloce Racing driver Kevin Hansen takes the ultimate grilling as primary school kids as him any question they want! Talking all things racing (and crashing), the kids ask Kevin what it takes to be an athlete and how what they learn in school can be applied to a real life race team!
