Last Week's News 7th Nov 25
Mon 10 Nov 20256CB’s Class Assembly: It was lovely to watch 6CB’s class assembly on Friday 7th November – the children have been reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan. In this story, Percy discovers that his father is the Greek God Poseidon, which means that he is a demigod – half god, half mortal. We were introduced to many of the Greek gods (in the form of children from 6CB!) and they shared some of the myths they have been learning about, including Pandora’s Box and Theseus and the Minotaur. They also performed a very entertaining Greek rap, which was enjoyed by everyone! Thanks 6CB.
Ella Kinzett We were very fortunate to have a visit from Ella Kinzett (on Thursday 6th November). Ella is the captain of Sheffield United ladies football team and at 21, she is the youngest female captain in the league! Ella told us all about how she became a professional footballer, the importance of listening to her coaches and never giving up. She also told us about how exciting it was to win the FA Youth Cup when she was playing for Manchester United (she spent 10 years playing there even though she's a Manchester City fan) and how proud she was when she became captain at Sheffield United. At the end of the assembly lots of children asked her questions about her life and her career; she is a really good role model for them.
Early Years Trip On Wednesday 5th November, our Nursery and Reception children had a wonderful day out at Coombe Abbey for an Autumn walk. They explored the woodlands and found conkers, acorns and pine cones. During their walk, they spotted squirrels and mole holes. They then enjoyed splashing in muddy puddles and fed the ducks, swans and geese. To finish off a wonderful day, they enjoyed climbing in the playground with a particular favourite being the zip line! Everyone had a lovely day and most children were so tired, they fell asleep on the journey home!

Mon 03 Nov 2025Artsmark: We are really proud that we have just been awarded the gold Artsmark award. We were previously at the silver level and have worked hard to reach this higher level. The Assessors included the following in their feedback: Moat House Primary School has made impressive progress during its Artsmark journey, building a coherent and inclusive creative culture grounded in clear values and thoughtful planning. A particular strength lies in the school’s curriculum design and delivery, with the implementation of the Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC) for art and DT leading to improved outcomes, greater staff confidence, and enthusiastic pupil engagement. The use of QR codes in the school’s musical timeline, termly concerts, and integration of musical genres across year groups reflects a consistent and structured approach to embedding the arts in everyday practice. The school’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is also well evidenced.
Open Morning in Early Years: We would like to thank all the parents who joined us on Friday 24th October, to take part in our Diwali themed activities with our Early Years children. It was wonderful to see everyone working together, sharing in the celebrations and creating such a joyful and vibrant atmosphere.
Black History Month: Thank you to everyone who has supported us celebrating the end of Black History Month by dressing in cultural/traditional costumes. Mr Black also joined in the fun and wore his Scottish traditional dress, which included his kilt! It was wonderful to see so many cultures reflected throughout the school on Friday 24th October.
Disco Fun: Each of our phases enjoyed an Autumn disco in the week commencing 20th October and it was a fun-filled event with spookiness, dancing and plenty of smiles! The children came dressed in amazing costumes and shared their best moves on the dance floor. A big thank you to Richard (Marley and Colton’s dad), as he was in charge of the tunes and thanks to those who ran and supported the tuck shop – it was a huge hit and helped raise extra funds for the school!
Football Success: On Wednesday 22nd October, the school football team played a match against St Patricks. Near the end of the first half, Carter broke the deadlock with a smart finish into the bottom corner. The second half began with us keeping the ball really well until Planely scored the second goal with Monga and Leo also getting on the score sheet. In the final minute, St. Patricks scored a goal so we lost our clean sheet. The whistle was blown and the final score was 1:4 to Moat House. Everyone had a great performance but Carter stood out and got man of the match. What a great start to the season! (Reported by Bradley and Planely).
Dodgeball at AT7: On Wednesday 22nd October, Moat House competed in another dodgeball competition. Nine children from Year 4 took part and played against other local Coventry schools. The teams were only judged on respect, honesty and teamwork and not by scoring points. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and represented Moat House perfectly.

Mon 20 Oct 2025Dodgeball at AT7: On Thursday 16th October, there was a dodgeball competition – it was fun! People think that whoever won the most games, won the gold medal but the team who won showed the values of teamwork, respect and honesty. There were twelve games in total and Moat House won two games. Although we did not come first, it was still an amazing experience! (Written by Zaytoon in Year 5)
Year 6 Theatre Visit: On Thursday 16th October, Year 6 enjoyed a trip to the Belgrade Theatre to watch Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, but in a musical form. The musical was fantastic with all the singing, acting and dancing. Everyone enjoyed it and had a blast! (Written by Evie in Year 6).

Fri 10 Oct 2025Year 2 Library Visit: On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th October, the Year 2 classes followed a route that they had planned in geography lessons to get from Moat House Primary School to Bell Green Library. They looked for road names and key features to help them to know they were going the right way. They found lots of human features such as the bridge, shops, roads, houses, flats and the roundabout and they also identified the river, which is a physical feature. While at the library they were shown lots of maps of the local area then had chance to draw their own maps.
Year 3 Geography Walk: On Tuesday 7th October, our Year 3 students enjoyed an exciting walk around the local area, as part of their geography learning. The children explored both physical and human geographical features, spotting things like hills, trees, rivers, roads, bridges, and buildings. When they returned, they looked at maps to plot out their journey and had fun identifying landmarks they recognised. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that helped bring their geography lessons to life!
Year 5 and 6 Internet Safety Workshops: On Monday 6th October, Year 5 and Year 6 took part in an informative online safety workshop led by West Midlands Police. The session focused on how to stay safe while gaming, messaging and communicating online. The children learned about the importance of keeping personal information private and recognising the potential risks of sharing too much online. They also discussed age restrictions on games and apps, exploring why some content isn’t suitable for younger users. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great awareness of how to use technology responsibly and respectfully.

Fri 03 Oct 20256JK’s Class Assembly: On Friday 3rd October, we enjoyed the first class assembly of the year and were impressed with the amount of learning that 6JK have done after only a few weeks being back at school! They informed us about how amazing the human body is and explained the workings of the brain and nervous system, the heart and circulatory system, the lungs and respiratory system, the digestive system and finally the muscles and bones. They then reminded us about the healthy habits, like eating a balanced diet, exercising, getting enough sleep and limiting screen time, we should all adopt in order to keep our bodies in good shape. Thanks very much to 6JK!
Phonics in Reception: On Thursday 2nd October, we welcomed parents and carers into school to find out about how we teach phonics at Moat House. Parents were then given the opportunity to watch their child being taught phonics in their groups. Please can you help your child at home by playing Fred games (eg: stroke the c-a-t, eat your e-gg and ch-i-p-s) and reading them a story at bedtime.
Macmillan Cake Sale: Thank you so much for your support with your contributions for our cake sale on Friday 26th September. We have managed to raise an amazing £663.99, which is significantly higher than last year, so thank you once again.

Fri 26 Sep 2025Macmillan Coffee Morning: Thank you to all of our parents, family and friends, who attended our coffee morning on Friday 26th September and ensured that it was a great success. The children did not miss out on the cake sale and enjoyed buying a cake (or two) to support Macmillan during the day.
Parents’ Evening: Thank you to everyone who attended the ‘settling in’ parents’ evening on Thursday 25th September. It is important that we meet with you throughout the year so that we can update you with your child’s life at school. There will be a further parents’ evening later on this term, where you will be invited to make an appointment to find out more information about your child’s progress and attainment.
Year 1’s Local Walk: On Tuesday 23rd September, both Year 1 classes went on a local walk as part of their geography learning. They became cartographers (map makers) and decided which symbols to draw on their own map of the local area. The children decided to make a symbol for Moat House School, St Chad's Church and the Wood End Chippy. They drew some great maps and understood the importance of maps being accurate for people to follow. They were all superbly behaved.
Fire Safety in Year 4: On Friday 19th September, Year 4 were visited by firefighters from Foleshill Fire Station. They talked to the children about fire, road and water safety. They helped the children to identify potential hazards, taught them what to do in an emergency and the important stop, drop and roll technique. Afterwards, they answered lots of the children’s questions too. Did you know that if you do not have a smoke alarm in your home, the fire service will fit one for you, free of charge? All you need to do, is call the fire station and they’ll come out to your home. They’ll also fix any broken or faulty smoke alarms too!

Mon 22 Sep 2025Feelings in Year 2: On Monday 15th September, Year 2 joined a virtual session with the Coventry School Nursing Team. They used Inside Out characters to teach different feelings and emotions and ways that we can stay calm and relaxed when our emotions change. We also listened to the story Ruby's Worry by Tom Percival, which talks about the importance of talking about our worries and not keeping them to ourselves - a well recommended author if you ever visit the library!
School Council: At the start of the school year, each class elected two children to represent their class on the Moat House School Council. The aim of the School Council is to involve pupils in decision making, in and around the school. Macmillan Coffee Morning: On Friday 19th September, we will be holding a non-uniform day in exchange for a donation of shop bought cakes (which will need to be in date and edible for at least a week). Please also ensure that they do not contain nuts. The following week (Friday 26th September), we will be participating in the national Macmillan coffee morning. Parents, carers, relatives and friends are invited to join us in the school dining area from 9:00 am – 10:00 am, to enjoy a coffee (or tea) and a cake for a small donation. Our children, of course, will not be missing out - there will be a cake sale during the day, so children are invited to bring along 20p to buy a cake. Mon 08 Sep 2025Welcome Back: It was great to see the children back in school on Wednesday 3rd September and I hope that they have all enjoyed their first few days in their new classes. They were all very smartly dressed and looked wonderful! The Year 6 children looked especially grown up in their new black sweatshirts and seem ready to take on the mantle of being role models for the rest of the school, whilst our Reception children have settled into their first days of school life beautifully. I am looking forward to another exciting year at Moat House and look forward to meeting you at Parents’ Evening, class assemblies or on the playground at the start or end of the school day.

Mon 21 Jul 2025Year 6 Leavers’ Party: On Thursday 17th July, Year 6 enjoyed their final party at Moat House. It was an afternoon full of fun, dancing and laughter and all children had a great time. Lots of games were played and many children won prizes for their impressive dance moves - Anabela, Adam and Rohan showed especially unique dancing! At the end of the party, there were lots of tears as children reflected on their time at Moat House with some children delivering emotional speeches to say goodbye. Well done Year 6 - you will be missed.
Year 6 Leavers’ Show: Our Year 6 children performed Cinderella Rockerfella to a very proud audience of parents and friends on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th July. It was fantastic to see this modern day version of a traditional tale with plenty of familiar characters, such as the ugly sisters, Buttons and Cinderella – there were also plenty of laughs throughout the show. It was a delight to see all of the children thoroughly enjoying their roles and performing with smiles on their faces and we were impressed with the bravery of so many solo singing performances! Thanks Year 6.
Rocksteady Show: On Tuesday 15th July, we were treated to a final Rocksteady concert, starring for the first time, our wonderful Reception children who sang 'We Will Rock You'. Moat House children never fail to make us proud and showed great confidence and star quality, as they performed to the school. A great big 'thank you' to Sophie from Rocksteady who has worked with so many of our children over the last two years and thank you to all the parents who came to support their children.
