Last Weeks News 23rd May 24

Deputy Lord Mayor Visit:  On Thursday 23rd May, we were lucky enough to be visited by the Deputy Lord Mayor (soon to be Lord Mayor of Coventry – Councillor Mutton). She joined us to watch 2BD’s class assembly, enjoyed a tour of the school and even participated in our School Council meeting – we were reliably informed that the children were much better behaved than the representatives at the Council House in Coventry!

RNLI Fundraiser:         As part of our School Council meeting on Thursday 23rd May, we welcomed Samantha, Sue, Anne and Danielle, who talked to us about the fundraising that they are leading in order to support the RNLI after 18 year old family member, Callum sadly passed away in a tragedy at sea, in 2021. They are holding a fundraising event on Saturday 13th July at Pinley Rugby Club at 11 am, where there will be various fun activities and prizes, for all of the family – everyone is welcome! We will also be holding a non-uniform day on Friday 14th June, in order to support this cause.

2BD’s Class Assembly:   On Thursday 23rd May, we enjoyed watching 2BD’s class assembly and were amazed by the children’s depth of knowledge about the different planets of the solar system. The children have also been finding out about the continents of the world and learnt some interesting facts to help remember the names. They were full of enthusiasm whilst singing the songs that have helped them to learn so much and the children (and adults!) across the school couldn’t help but join in!

Recorder Assembly: On Wednesday 22nd May, we were treated to a special assembly led by Miss Sinclair, who has been teaching our Year 4 children how to play the recorder. We were surprised to find out that the children had only started learning the instrument in January but were very proficient and were able to play along to some familiar songs including Eye of the Tiger and We will Rock You. Parents and children alike enjoyed this special assembly.

Online Safety:   On Tuesday 21st May, Year 5 and 6 were visited by two PCSOs for an assembly about online safety. The children were taught about the steps that they should put in place to ensure they stay safe when online, especially when they are using apps and taking part in online gaming. They also had the opportunity to ask the PCSOs any questions or share any concerns that they had about staying safe online.

Tour de France: The school football team returned to Coventry after a very enjoyable tournament in Hordain, France in the early hours of Tuesday morning (21st May). The team did brilliantly and finished 9th out of 20 teams, having played against some very competitive European teams. They won all three of their matches on the second day, including knocking out the host team in a penalty shootout! The children especially enjoyed experiencing European culture by staying with host families, which included them tasting local cuisine and trying to communicate in a mixture of English and French.
