Chinese New Year:
On Thursday 23rd January, the children enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year at lunchtime with a selection of Chinese delights, including Chinese chicken curry, spring rolls, chow mein and prawn crackers. On Friday 24th January, our Reception children invited their parents into school to enjoy a Chinese themed morning, where they made origami dragons, and fans. They all had a wonderful morning and enjoyed some cultural food, whilst listening to music from China.
In the week beginning Monday 16th December, our children in the Foundation Stage produced two fantastic performances, which included songs, actions and acting. The children did extremely well to learn their lines and songs, as well as perform in front of large audiences.
Enchanted Christmas at Hatton Country World:
Despite the wet weather the children in Nursery and Reception had a wonderful day out on Thursday 12th December. They fed the goats, sheep and guinea pigs and were able to stroke the donkeys and hold the guinea pigs. They explored the reptile house, looked at bearded dragons, snakes and hedgehogs and some very brave children even stroked the lizard! After lunch, the children had lots more energy to explore the soft play area, where they climbed, jumped and whizzed down some very big slides. They also had the privilege of meeting Father Christmas himself! The children walked through Santa’s magical grotto and were able to find out if they were on the nice list (not the naughty list!) After a little bit of magic, the children discovered a golden key. The magical golden key opened the door to Santa’s toy shop which was mesmerising! The children were able to choose any toy in exchange for the golden key. A fantastic day was had by all
YR trip to Combe Abbey:
On Thursday 17th October, our Reception children enjoyed a trip to Coombe Abbey to look for signs of Autumn. The children managed to spot lots of interesting things, such as conkers, pine cones and different coloured and shaped leaves. The children studied the different types of trees, did some tree rubbings and clambered over fallen logs! The day was finished off by a little play in the playground. "It was fantastic," said Nicole . "I loved it, I found lots of conkers," said Awa "My favourite bit was looking at the sheep." said Jan.
Phonics in Reception:
On Tuesday 1st October, we welcomed Reception parents into school so that they can find out how we teach our children to read – they watched (and even joined in!) as teachers taught their children a brand new sound. Parents were also invited to purchase a Read Write Inc parents’ pack to practise and help their children at home. If you would like to buy a pack, which includes all of the set 1 sounds, a handwriting practise book as well as a parents’ guide, school are able to order them at a discounted cost of £5. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you would like a pack.
Family Fun in EYFS:
On Thursday 18th July, parents, friends, family and children enjoyed an afternoon in the grounds of our Early Years, where they brought a picnic and had the opportunity to try their luck on various stalls, as well as play on the bouncy castle and have their faces painted. They managed to raise £682, which will be used to develop the outdoor environment in the Early Years.
On Thursday 14th February, the Nursery parents were invited to join their children to take part in lots of Valentine themed activities, including making cards, bookmarks and bracelets. They even enjoyed tea and coffee with heart shaped jam tarts! The children were thrilled to show their parents what they get up to in Nursery and the parents had a lovely time too.
On Friday 8th February, our Reception children invited their parents into school to enjoy a Chinese themed morning, where they made dragons, fans and origami pigs. They all had a wonderful morning and enjoyed some cultural food, as well as listened to music from China.
Marvellous Moat House Mums:
On Friday 29th March, our Reception mums and special ladies were all invited to school for an afternoon with their children. The ladies all enjoyed spending time with their children and were presented with a card and a homemade cake.
On Tuesday 11th December, the children in Foundation Stage had a wonderful time at the Tamworth Snowdome, where they enjoyed playing in the snow, throwing snowballs and building snowmen. They watched a Christmas show featuring Father Christmas and this was followed by them meeting some winter animals, which included real reindeer. Before leaving, the children were excited to receive a chocolate treat – they all had a great time.
On Friday 9th November, Reception parents were invited to a combined Diwali and Remembrance morning. The children and their parents enjoyed creating diva lamps, poppies and lanterns. The children then acted out the story of Rama and Sita before eating some special Diwali party food. A great time was had by all.
Year R visit to Coombe Abbey:
On Wednesday 10th October, Reception enjoyed a visit to Coombe Abbey to investigate and find signs of Autumn. The children had a great time walking through the woods, climbing trees, collecting leaves and creating bark rubbings. At the end of the day there was just enough time to have fun in the playground. As Martin said "It is amazing here, I love it, I have had a fantastic day." a view shared by all!

Foundation Family Fun Day:
On Friday 20th July, families from the Foundation Stage were invited to bring in a picnic to share with their children to celebrate the end of a successful year. Parents and carers were also invited to join in with a variety of fundraising events, including guess the teacher, tombola, face painting and a bouncy castle. The event managed to raise £600 and this money will be used to support trips and activities for the children. The Foundation Stage team would like to thank all of the parents and families for their commitment and support over the year.

On Wednesday 20th June, parents with children who are due to start our Reception in September, were invited into school to find out about the setting, the school routines and the learning at Moat House. The teachers and teaching assistants introduced themselves and parents were given the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have.

The teachers and teaching assistants introduced themselves and parents were given the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have.
Please note that the Nursery doors open at 8:45 am and close at 8:55 am for children who attend Nursery in the morning session – this in line with whole school policy where registers are taken promptly after ten minutes of the doors opening.
Dentist in EYFS:
The children in Nursery and Reception enjoyed a visit from Horace the Horse, on Thursday 3rd May. He showed the children how to brush their teeth and talked about the food they should eat to keep their teeth healthy. They were surprised to learn that they shouldn’t use water on their toothbrush whilst brushing their teeth. The children are looking forward to Horace returning soon to show them what happens at the dentist. Please can you support your children to help them brush their teeth twice a day; they should be helped by an adult until the age of seven. We were also informed that children should visit the dentist on a regular basis from their first birthday.

Easter Bonnet Parade:
The children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 enjoyed parading their home made Easter bonnets around the hall on Thursday 29th March. All of the bonnets were amazing and Mrs Horton (our Chair of Governors) had the extremely difficult job of selecting two winners from each class – the winners each received an Easter egg. We would like to say a huge thank you for your support in helping your children to make their bonnets.

On Thursday 8th and Friday 9th March, our Foundation Stage and Year 1 mums and special ladies were all invited to school for a memorable afternoon with their children. The ladies all enjoyed spending time with their children and were presented with cards and other special gifts.
World Book Day:
On Thursday 1st March, the Foundation children (and staff) all dressed up as favourite book characters. Parents were invited in to classes to share books with their children in the morning and this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all. In the afternoon, the children could choose to listen to a story read by any teacher from YR to Year 2. This meant that they had a choice of six different stories – not surprisingly Miss Graham’s choice of “The Dinosaur that Pooped the Bed,” was very popular!
Our lucky Nursery children celebrated three different festivals in the week beginning 12th February. On Tuesday, 13th February, parents were invited in to school to join their children for Pancake Day celebrations. The children took part in races and everyone tried a variety of toppings – we weren’t surprised that chocolate was the most popular! The children made cards, flowers and jam tarts for Valentine’s Day on Wednesday 14th February. And finally, on Thursday 15th February, the children celebrated Chinese New Year. Again, parents were invited into school to make lucky red envelopes containing gold coins, Chinese lanterns and to try some delicious Chinese food. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Yang Yang who cooked and donated most of the food.
Firework Fun in Nursery:
In the week beginning 30th October, our Nursery children learnt all about fireworks and on Friday 3rd November parents were invited in to school, to find out what their children had been learning. The children shared a song and a dance, as well as some very important messages about keeping safe around fireworks. The children and parents all enjoyed hot dogs with tea or milk and everyone agreed that it was a fabulous event.
Parents’ Morning in Reception:
We were delighted to welcome many of our parents into Reception on Thursday 19th October for a fun filled session, which hopefully also raised awareness about how we teach children in the Foundation stage, especially with their phonics and early reading skills. Following this, they celebrated Divali by designing diva lamps, making Indian sweets and sampling Indian cuisine. Everyone agreed that it was a fabulous and informative morning.
Reception Trip to Coombe Abbey:
On Wednesday 11th October, Reception visited Coombe Abbey to learn all about Autumn. They had a lovely day collecting leaves, conkers and pine cones. The children were amazing and had a great experience, learning about and spotting the signs of Autumn. They ended the day at the playground and enjoyed lots of climbing, sliding and swinging. Well done to all of the children who showed great behaviour throughout the trip and were excellent representatives for Moat House.
After school on Wednesday 19th July, Foundation enjoyed an end of year disco, where there were plenty of groovy moves and balloon popping! All of the children (and staff!!) enjoyed listening to the music, eating snacks and dancing. The children all had a great time and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Foundation parents for your continued support this year.
Nursery Umberslade Farm Trip:
On Monday 17th July, the Nursery children, parents and staff spent a day on the farm. They learnt how to feed and care for lots of different animals. The guides taught everyone the correct names of the mummy, daddy and baby animals. Feeding the goats was lots of fun, as the animals tickled the children’s hands with their tongues. They especially enjoyed stroking the velvety noses of the horses and enjoyed bumping up and down during the tractor ride. They all had so much fun on the farm that many children fell asleep on their way home after a very happy and exciting day.

The teachers and teaching assistants introduced themselves and parents were given the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have.
Please look out for our Foundation Stage ice cream and ice lolly sale every Friday and on most hot days. You will find staff outside the entrance to the school kitchen selling ice creams and lollies at 50p each. Proceeds from the sale will go towards funds for Nursery and Reception. Anyone is welcome to purchase a Frozen Friday treat!

Foundation Stage Trip:
On Tuesday 6th December, the children in Foundation enjoyed a walk in a Winter Wonderland! The children, staff and parents went to see a Santa show, meet winter animals including reindeer and play in the snow at Tamworth Snowdome. There was plenty of snowball throwing, sledging, laughter and fun. All had a brilliant time and it has made them feel very festive.
Year R trip to Bournemouth:
On Thursday 14th July, our Reception children travelled all the way to Bournemouth for a trip to the beach, as well as a visit to the Oceanarium. They had great fun playing in the sand and the sea, and were fascinated by the sea creatures, especially the giant turtles. They all enjoyed a traditional seaside meal of fish, chips and ice cream. They all had a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff and parents who helped on the day.
Nursery Visit to Hatton Country World:
On Tuesday 12th July, Nursery visited Hatton Country World where they explored the farm, fed the animals and had a fantastic afternoon racing around the soft play area. The children's behaviour was outstanding and the adults were so proud of them. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the adults who helped to support on the trip.

Year R Parents’ Event:
On Tuesday 22nd March, Reception opened their doors for a parents’ Easter craft open afternoon. The children, along with their mums, dads and grandparents enjoyed a variety of activities including Easter bunny masks, iced bonnets and Easter boxes. This was all followed by an Easter egg hunt and hot cross buns. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
Reception Open Morning:
On Friday 12th February our Reception parents were invited to a Chinese themed morning in their children’s classes. Parents and children enjoyed working together to take part in activities including making Chinese dragons. writing Chinese numerals and sampling Chinese food.
FS and KS1 trip to Skegness:
On Thursday 9th July, half of the school enjoyed a fantastic trip to Skegness. The children (and staff!) were all up bright and early to make sure that they had plenty of time to enjoy the beach. Four coaches of excited children arrived in Skegness and enjoyed playing in the sand and splashing in the sea. They also learnt about the important job that the RNLI do and were able to stand close to a real lifeboat. The children enjoyed a fish and chip lunch as well as a well-deserved ice cream. After a fun-filled and busy day, everyone was glad to rest on the coach, with a few children even nodding off! A big thank you to all of the staff who organised such a fantastic event and to the parents and helpers who came along to support.
Over the last few weeks the children in RLM and the afternoon Nursery children have been working hard to learn some songs and dance routines to prepare for their performance of ‘The Dressing Up Box’. This was a story about the children dressing up as different characters, including a fairy and a robot. On Wednesday 1st July, the children all performed enthusiastically to an audience of parents and Year 2 children. Thank you to all the staff in the Foundation Stage team, Michelle from ‘Mini Pals’ and all the parents who supported their children.
The Nursery children enjoyed a fantastic day out at Hatton Country World on Thursday 2nd July. They had fun exploring the indoor soft play and slides, before watching the exciting sheep race! After a picnic lunch everyone had lots of fun playing on the bouncy castles and fair ground rides. They also visited a new attraction, Scales and Tails, where they saw all kinds of animals from snakes to hedgehogs! Staff at the park commented that the children's behaviour was amazing and we are very proud of them. Thanks to all staff and parents who made the whole day a wonderful experience for our Nursery children.
Visitors from Bermuda:
On 11th March, Foundation had some special visitors from Bermuda, who are looking to create an early year’s curriculum in their country. The visitors looked at the environment and spoke to the children and the staff about life in Reception and Nursery. They really appreciated and enjoyed the visit and are hoping to take some of the many ideas they got all the way back to their home country.
